Curious as to why the 308 is only 20", while the Creedmoor is 24", and the 243 is 26".

Same here but I'm guessing Ruger is 'targeting' the LEO tactical guys and wannabes with the 20" 308 Win.

I think the 20" 308 was a good call.
Anyone serious about long range is going to opt for the 6.5 anyways.

Better barrel harmonics with a 20 inch bbl and really, beyond 22 inches is diminishing returns with that calibre. Good balance between performance and portability.

How long is the barrel on a PGW Coyote?

Pgw is more than 20 inches, but all I'm saying is if you're looking for an extreme long range rifle, 308 isn't the caliber of choice. for all intents and purposes, a 20 inch bbl will do anything you want it to without sacrificing portability out past distances most people can shoot.

Just for point of fact...I can take a box of Federal Blue box 308-180 gr., out to 850 metres...Yes metres...all day long with a 16.5 inch barrel (not sure of your definition of extreme long range, however?)

Well yes you can however, you will have more drop and drift with 16.5 compared to 24.

The less drop and drift, the more likely to hit the intended point of aim.

Nothing. I personally would have liked a 24" .308 barrel for a little more velocity and astestics.
