Best aftermarket SKS magazine?

I bought a couple of used promags for mine. After filing them to fit (they all do no matter the brand) they have worked flawlessly.

I have a 5/30 Promag that works perfectly. I also have a Buar 5/30 that doesn't retain the rounds very well. It spits out the last 1 or 2 all the time. Too bad because It looks really good with my stock. I will try the Tapco 5/20 next.

I have three of the short 5 round promags (10 round pinned to 5) for my scoped "hunting" SKS. With the Magwedge rail, removable mags just make it easier than top loading one round at a time.

As other's have mentioned, it took a bit of sanding on the sides to get them to slim down enough to fit right, but they've been worry free ever since. The nice thing about the short mags is that they keep the same lines as the original box mag. Clean, handy rig for bumping around the bush looking for a white tail.

Another vote for the Tapco mags. A lot of reviews I came across in the past had a lot of negative comments on their reliability but after 2 years I've had zero problems. The plus side was 3 out of my 5 mags required no sanding to fit into the wood stock.

Ive got tapco in mine. Feed lip is cracked on the one i was useing. Even the tapco rails on the stock were cracking off. I would stay well away from tapco because they offer a life time warrenty but they will not honor it in canada.

I avoid giving Promag money, because their steel mags are consistently horrible and malformed. Heard SO many people giving up on them. Every steel promag had very poorly formed feed lips.

I've also had major issues with the steel promags...I recently picked up a pair of 5/20 tapco mags at SFRC, just because, I normally don't use detachable mags, and I probably wont use these ones much cause feeding from stripper clips becomes quite a task...but they feed flawlessly, so I guess I can't complain too much :)

my tapco mags worked great out of the package , but my promag shorties had to be filed to feed properly took about 2min to correct the issue.. I might switch to the AR - SKS mag adapter to run the 10 round XCR pistol mags
