Hey everyone,...just wondering if anyone wants to post a few successful hunting stories,( deer, bear, elk, moose), using the underrated 7-08. I think the 7-08 is a great little round, and I would like to hear a few stories from other 7-08 fans. Here is an old dry Sow I shot with a 139gr Hornady Superfomance SST,....the bullet busted her shoulder and spine going in, took out her lungs and was lodged just under the hide on the off side,..she only lived long enough to pull her head out of the bait barrel,..DRT....

My wife took this moose with her x-bolt micro in 7-08 at 150 yds last November. I was thankful that she held off for a moose in a stubble field, rather than the bull in a willow thicket, smack dab in the middle of a 'no vehicles' quarter that she passed on that morning.

Took this big brute 2 years ago, might not be the biggest rack but he had the biggest body anyone had seen come out of this area in some time, 7-08 Tikka with 140 grain Remington factory ammo, federal fusion was in he other jacket so they had to do. winched him onto the flat deck quad trailer and hoisted him up between these 2 trees, a feet in itself as the trees started to lean over hard and we ended up with more guy wires holding the trees up then the old circus tent used to use.

Good stuff so far guys,...
220Swifty,...congratulations to your wife,...and that pink scope is pretty cool, I have never seen one like it.

Last fall, like an idiot, I sold my 7-08 to fund another brain storm that I had at the time. I didn't only sell the rifle, (a beautiful oil finish BAR Shorttrac), but I sold the Redding dies, Lee factory crimp die, 3 boxes of bullets, and all my brass,...the first word that comes to mind is "DUMMY",...anyway,..today I stopped at the shop where I sold this stuff and as luck would have it he still had my dies and bullets, so I bought them back, cost me $120 but that is still cheaper than buying it all new again. So all I have to do now is decide what rifle I want to buy.

Keep the stories coming,...someone must have some more deer, bear, elk, moose stories to share.

Got this fellow last fall. 180 pounds field dressed.
Sako A7 with 139 grain Hornady Interlocks. First big game animal I've shot with my own handloads.

how well did that rifle shoot? That's exactly what I have been thinking about buying! Then I have read stories here that they don't shoot very well at all.

Well,.. to be truthful ... it was a bit fussy,... but when I figured out what it liked it was great. When I first bought it I tried some factory loaded Winchester 140 pp, and Remington 140 Core-Lokt,..it would give me acceptable groups of 3 or 4" @ 75 to 100 yards which is OK for most hunting that I do,..but I was not happy with those groups so I tried 139gr Hornady Superformance and the groups tightened up a little but I wanted it shooting tighter so I tried a box of 150gr Federal Sierra Pro Hunters, and it grouped them @ 1", but Federal does'nt make these anymore, so I decided to hand load for it and see what it would do,..long story short 140gr Sierra Pro Hunters and 150gr Winchester PP over IMR4895 would give me a 1" group so I stopped load development there. Then, as I said, like a "dough head" I sold it and have been kicking my ass ever since,....I know the guy who ended up with the gun and I have already told him if he ever wants to sell it to let me know.

So if you do buy the Shorttrac 7mm08 and it doesn't group so good at first,..don't give up,..there is probably a round out there that it will like. Those rifles work flawless and are very nice to carry, plus the fit and finish is perfect, and they look awesome, beautiful rifles. If they weren't so expensive I would go buy a new one ,..but for now I think I might just buy the X-Bolt Hunter Full Line Dealer model.

two-dogs,...here is a couple pics of my Shorttrac 7-08,....

Some nice pics so far, I wish I had some to share. I had a 7mm08 in a win M70 featherweight a few years back that I regretfully sold to fund some other project. The only animal I shot with it was a small buck, ran about 70 yards and fell over. That was the only deer we saw in 2 days so we were happy! Since then I've got a kimber Montana in 7mm08, I keep changing my mind between it and a 300wsm for an upcoming caribou hunt?

My son got this elk last fall. He was using 140 grain Nosler Partitions in a Browning Micro-Hunter LH 7-08. This was his second elk with this rifle, in three years hunting. He thinks elk hunting is easy....I tell him he has a good guide!

You guys in western Canada are very fortunate to have such a variety of big game animals to hunt,...here in N.S. all we have is Whitetails and Black Bears,..and maybe once in a lifetime we might get drawn for a moose hunt in Cape Breton,...I envy you guys alot.

Yes, we are fortunate. Not to rub it in, but one fall I managed to get an Antelope, Mule deer, Whitetail , Elk and Moose. (Didn't have time to go for bear.) And yes 3 out of 5 were taken with a 7-08.
You could always move out West.....
