Canadian Rangers Enfields may be sold for surplus or back to rangers.

So will the rest of the Lee Enfields be made available for sale to the public, perhaps through surplus dealers? No one knows at this point. There are an estimated 3,000 to 3,500 such rifles still left in army stocks, according to the Army.

Those would vanish on the surplus market in a week.
 
Just waiting for someone to get his knickers in a knot about this. Way too much logic at work here. Any special markings on these that would enhance their collector value ?

I wonder what condition they're in? If they've been handed down through the generations, the may be just about shot out.
 
Well I would say wishful thinking at best. I am a Canadian Ranger and have been appealing to the hierarchy for some time about being able to keep our issued Enfields. They are crown assets,.......... could you imagine the anti's knowing that our gov't is giving away rifles to it's citizens!!!! I'm certainly not holding my breath. When was the last time you seen a gun or ammo made surplus by the gov't and made available for the public to buy??? For the most part the gov'ts that we elect on our behalf do not trust us, they even fear us....can you imagine!!!

there may be some surprises still comming outof this. ;)

I can't tell you that the ones held in stock will be released as surplus.

The ones that are currently issued out may be safe from the smelter. Current Ranges may find theselves with 2 issued rifles.

It would be nice of the govt. would let the Rangers keep their current rifles when they issue them the new ones. I don't think that's too much to ask of them.

I'd love to see some .303 ammo be available as well but I won't hold my breath.
 
the truth is the army doesn’t know where all the rifles are, and its cheaper and easier to wright them off ,than go across the north trying to find them.
I’ve been saying this for a while . ONE TIME FREE GIFT. I’ve been saying join the rangers if you can.
 
The Brits inspected and pressure tested the Lee's before releasing them to the public. Can't see Canada doing the same at this time of lawyers and lawsuits. I'll bet even the Rangers won't get to keep them. A shame if I'm right.
 
Nobody knows... All the rest is speculations.
If they do, I hope that Current and retired Rangers get 1st bid (and supporting military pers), 2nd for current serving military personnel and 3th for retired military personnel.
Max 1 per.
They should do something similar for the BHP when it retires in 2040 after 100yrs of service...

Those rifles get used for everything from a rifle to a hammer to a tent peg. The reserve ones would be nice but the issue ones are probably a little weathered.
I'm not saying I don't want one!

Not from what I've seen in person. They are used as general tools and are often left kicking around in the boats/toboggan/ATV's while they use their personal rifles. Just what I have observed anyway, it is by no means a representation of what goes on across the country, but I can imagine any Enflied that is exposed to the coastal salt-air is going to be shot out or corroded to hell.
