M70 vs Van S2

Shot both, bought one. You guessed it. Model 70 extreme weather. Hands down the best shooting, best feeling gun ive ever owned. Thats comaring to a sako, tikka, browning and kimber. Go with a model 70, you wont regret it.

I have the M70 Extreme Weather in .270.....I really like it. The trigger is perfectly fine...its a hunting rifle, not a benchrest gun. When you see a 180 class whitetail in front of you the last thing you're gonna be thinking about is if your trigger is 3 pounds or 3.5 pounds.
I own a Vanguard, great rifle but I would pay over 1K for one,,,they are a $600 gun.

Although I don't have the stainless versions of either I do have many examples of both Vanguards and M70s. I prefer the design, trigger, safety and stock shape on the M70s. You can bet on the Vanguard shooting better though.

This quote says it all.

A good comparison to some dandy rifles indeed but like for me nothing seems to feel as good in the hand as all the M70s I've owned. I like the older push feeds as well, my 34 year old XTR magnum is flawless in function and feels like its riding on glass when chambering, the anti-bind Mauser bolt design I believe is the reason and nothing I've owned is quite like them.

Own many S2's and one backcountry. Have owned a few m70's in supergrade not the extreme weather. S2's were much more consistently accurate and didn't seem to be finicky on the loads. M70's were very picky on what ammo it liked. Did shoot well once I found it though, but not as good as the backcountry. Can't comment on the quality of the extreme weather but the supergrade was top notch. Overall accuracy and trigger were better on backcountry. Don't think I would say one is better than the other but I prefer the consistency of the vanguard.
