Yeah. That is what I was sort of hoping for.

Looking for a 22lr pistol, kind of leaning towards a revolver as I dont currently own any wheel guns. Been looking at S&W 617 but they are pricey. What do you folks have for 22lr plinkers? Can the SW shoot 22 mag as well?
OP…if you're still looking I saw a late model 617 at "Target Sports" today. I didn't handle/inspect it but it visually looked very clean and the asking price was $600.
May not be a bad idea to give them a call and get the details….
Thanks for the drop on this one, it was a deal too good to pass up.
'twas a 10 shot. I checked out at at cabela's the other day and they were looking for $949 for one, with taxes and such thats over a G.

You just need to think outside the box. I know its not a 617 but its just steel. It can be adjusted to whatever you need (within the confines of the law). My 6" 17-2 as it sits now (4.2" barrel). Great little pistola, very handy and very accurate even though I did it myself. The Goncalo Alves combat stocks may be a bit overkill but it sure feels nice and it is a good companion piece for my similarly dressed cut down 29-2.

The S&W 17 and similar K-22 is pretty well at the top end for the mass market. The odd Colt or Korth could be argued to be better. But those of us that need to dole out where we spend our shooting money will drool at the thought and then move on to a S&W or maybe a nice Ruger Single Six.
As for the chambers on the S&W 17 being a bit intolerant of fouling this is easily taken care of by bringing along a .22 caliber brush mounted on a cleaning extension rod. When the cases become snug to load or eject just scuff the chambers clean with the brush then carry on. I found with mine that this needed doing about every 80 to 100 rounds. It's now a regular take along item when the 17 goes out with me.
Johnnymac, the Bearcat is one sweet little gun. But the "little" is the operative word here. Us folks that take Large size gloves will find that we can't easily hold the gun and move the trigger finger into and out of the guard when needed while handling the gun. And that the stock grips pretty much disappear inside our big ugly mitts.
I've ponders on and off about what it would be like for "us big handers" if a new set of wood grips were to be made up with an extended back spine would be like. These would leave the front strap of the frame exposed but there would be an extended butt and rear strap wood portion that clamshells over these parts of the frame to make the grips more suitable for us "big handers" while also increasing the reach to the trigger to what "we" find is normal.
It's that or buy a Ruger Single Something or one of the Pietta or Uberti 1873 models in .22..... which are not bad options either.
