My next purchase is a higher end 1911 in .45ACP. I'm thinking Dlask Pro Plus right now but I haven't talked to them in years. I have a 1911 Dlask Pro in .40S&W and it is a great gun. If I could keep my $$ in Canada that wouldn't be a bad deal. Since this will take me months to save up the $$ I'm dreaming and hoping for smart advice from people who know this guy and his gun. My other choices would be Wilson, Ed Brown, or Night Hawk I guess but they are a lot more money with the exchange. I'm hearing good things about the new Dan Wesson, at least from the salesman of the gun.

No way I could afford the S&W Performance Center 1911 that I have .. but thanks to Tactical Capital, I was able to get it!! So if your tastes are bigger than your bank account ... consider financing before you consider down grading your want (not practical for many .. but works for me! lol).

my next 1911 is going to be a Dlask custom.
every month i tuck $50-$100 away towards it, if nothing else catches my eye in between i should see it next year some time.

if i like that one then i may start saving for a southpaw 1911 from Cabot.

Hey Wayupnorth .... if you're tucking that amount away every month .. you may want to consider grabbing one when it's available and financing the thing rather than possibly missing out on one ..

No, I don't work for Tactical Capital nor do I have shares in the company .. lol I just think it's a great option for those that can't afford a big purchase up front. May even work out that your finance charge on the pistol would be less per month than what you're currently putting aside.... I would hate for you to not get one of your dream pieces because you weren't aware of financing options ...

Debt can be useful but not to be abused. Since a gun is a toy it isn't on the list of things to finance, ever. A house, due to the cost, pretty much has to be financed. At least the first one or two. But, big but, use debt wisely and pay off the debt as quickly as possible. Say 15 years instead of 25 for a house. If you have debt, pay off the highest interest rate stuff first. Best to never carry a balance on a credit card, never go for the minimum payment on a credit card, this is like a 10 year plan, the interest charges are excessive.

In terms of the origional post. I will savor the time I have between now and the purchase. I will use this time to research and choose the gun I purchase. I have lots of guns. I just want a nice higher end 1911. I had a low cost STI and sold it. I might buy a SAM 1911 in 9mm just to have a 9mm 1911. Make a project out of it. What I have been doing up to this point is save a little money, say $600-$1000 than blow that on a cheaper gun. Now I wait for the $2500 gun.

Can't say I agree with the finality of that statement. Its not for me, but if a person wants to enjoy their life and their hobby, and can do it without endangering the financial health of themselves or their family, who am I to say they shouldn't finance a gun. Goodness knows people finance "toys" all the time. Some people actually survive the ordeal.

I think everyone understands debt, I was pointing out that if you're putting an amount of money away every month, that is basically the same as paying a finance company every month .. only you get your toy now and don't miss out on it's availability. One would think the more expensive toys would be around longer and you would have time to save up for them but I've seen all too often, they come and go quickly and if you don't jump on one when it's there .. it may be gone when you do want to move on it.

Their rate of interest is 15% for one year. My line of credit is something like Prime plus 1%, there abouts anyway. Prime is 2.7% right now. Not too hard to figure out their rates are close to 4 times as expensive as my line of credit. That is assuming I wanted to borrow for the gun which I don't. Young people today don't have a fear of borrowing money. I was a banker for about 14 years. I have a great deal of respect for owing money.

Except that if you're putting money aside into your savings you get a return on it instead of paying someone else to use their money.

I've missed out on sales because I would have had to carry debt. It happens.

Paying for unnecessary high interest loans/advances is a waste of your own money

Yes you DO go into debt - for the things that count. Debt and credit are tools and they will only hurt you if you misuse them.

And dammit...if I had it to do again? Financing a Les Baer 1911...? Wow...I would really need to think about that...

This tread got off topic. Does anyone have experience with the Dlask 1911 Pro Plus or Dlask in general? I have the Pro and it is a great 1911. I contacted them and there is a 4 month wait time and 50% deposit. I'm thinking of selling a gun to get the deposit together than save for the rest. I also don't know what options a person should choose. I guess there is stainless steel or blued steel to start with. I would want a light trigger, maybe 3.5 # range. I wouldn't want the gun fit so tight that it takes 1000 rounds to break in.

Well I ordered the Dlask Pro Plus. Got it in stainless steel. No real options, just the basic gun. Now the 4 month wait starts. Guess I'll get to blast off a few rounds before were covered in snow. I'm thinking I'll try to find a 1911 in 9mm at some point but that is well down the road.

By no real options do you mean that there was nothing you wanted to do to it or that there wasn't much wiggle room from their specified parts?

I should send them an inquiry, but if I'm in no position to buy this year it seems like tire kicking.

i dont understand.
did you get the Basic the Pro or the Pro Plus?

I ordered the Pro Plus in .45ACP Government length. I have a few specific requests but nothing that increased the price of the $2500 gun. It was ordered in polished stainless steel that is the same cost as blued steel.

I have several months to consider options and can add things I guess. My big thing is the rear sights. I have a couple guns that have special sights and really want a similar sight. I'm old and if there is a lot of room side to side in the sight I cannot be accurate. That make any sense?
