bushnel elite 4200..ran out of windage adjustment..suggestions needed

You would not be surprised as to the lack of quality control that comes from gun manufacturers these days and Remington leads the way . A barrel exterior my look straight that does not mean the bore is straight and I seen this on quite a few new Remington's that we have sent to the gunsmith for modification's .

This isn't a production rifle...its a custom 280 built by me years ago( about 30 or so) on a Brazilian mauser action. It weighs about 15 pounds. When it was originally done it never had a problem with scope adjustments.. But it seems as like was stated above that some newer scopes don't have as much adjustment in them. I was surprised when I hit the range last Friday and couldn't even get a bore sight on it at 50 yards..I didn't know what to think. So now I guess just call it for what it is..a lesson learned..Dont take any thing for granted, that new production scopes are the same as the older ones..An the rings that were on it when I got it back...will probably end up being tossed in the big green filing cabinet in the back alley..

If you decide to go with windage adjustable rings, not the burris Signature Z rings, remember you have to lap the rings before you put the scope in and tighten everything down otherwise you are bending the tube to fit the angles created by the rings you have installed. You are far better off getting a set of leopold or burris adjustable bases, one or two piece, and as suggested prior, align the rings on the receiver then lap them, then put your scope in them otherwise you are again bending the tube.

Optics are designed to take recoil in a nice straight way, not like a snake, a poor scope mounted properly will last longer then a good scope mounted poorly!

That scope only has 26" of adjustment at 100m and 1/8" clic value. That's half to 1/4 the adjustment range of most scopes (50-100"). That scope is more for rimfire bench rest shooting.
Plenty of other scopes will work without adjustable rings or bases, you just need to review the specs before hand.

HUH...its a elite 6x24 with 40 mil adj obj..I hardly think its for rimfire type of shooting...Who needs or uses a 24X power at 100 to 150 yards? Thank the fella up above that my eye sight aint that bad yet!

It's a bit light at 24x (they use higher most of the time), but that is the exact type of scope for those kind of competitions.
With 26" of adjustment it's not really designed as a true long range scope as it doesn't have the adjustment range needed.
You really should just get a different scope rather then trying to make that one work. Depending on where it's aligned vertically, you could run out of vertical adjustment at 300m potentially...

I have no desire what so ever to go out and start slinggin lead past 400 yards. Been there done that on the farm.I might take this rifle and try it at 600-1000 yards,,,but if I don't...I aint gonna lose any sleep over it.If I can crank a gopher at 300 yards...that's good enuff for me.All I wnt is for this to hit paper( which it should now) other then that...I really don't care,,

hitzy is correct, this scope only has 26" of total elev adjustment in it, Which is very little if you consider that your scope should zero to roughly center of that, so 13" of useable elev. unlike scopes like the leup mk4 16X which is something like 125moa of total elev adjustment. If you want to keep the scope, get a set of adjustable rings like the burris signature zee rings.

I aint worried about elevation...I just needed to get windage out of it.The elevation was just fine in it. An like I stated above,if I run into this problem again,I will definitely look at a set of the Burris rings.

the burris inserts can be rotated inside the rings to give adjustment in ANY direction up/down/left/right/diagonally. Thats what makes them so good. With the 1inch scopes you can do max of 30moa adjustment i think.

I used one on my CZ 252 Lux for over 2 years. It allows you to see any movement so you can correct for it. With the low powered ones you are just guessing about heartbeat, etc.
