I have an sks and love shooting the s### out of it with cheap ammo. The Ruskies designed this thing for stripper clips so the grunts would not lose the magazines. The magazines were never made to be easily removed from the receiver. Stripper clips are just as fast or in this case faster to load. Original mags work best. Tapco Mag. Dremel what you must and here is a pic to make your tapco mag run smooth with stripper clips. The top mag has been modified. Needs a little dremel on the feed lips to engage the stripper clips and prevent jamming while loading. Get it to fit and forget it. You will still have the "tacticool" look. I added a piece of plastic 1/4 ice maker tube to the remaining half of the stripper clip to make it easy to handle and speed up reloads. Electrical tape holds it in place and keeps the top edge from snagging. They fit multiples nicely into a magazine pouch for an M4 or the shirt pocket of your favorite hillbilly dinner jacket.

I've been running Tapco mags for a few years now, and did this modification back when I started with them. Despite the mod, clips would not feed quite at smooth at the original mag and after many, many rounds the modified lips do begin to flex with the pressure of your feeding hand. I may need to remove more material, but I really dont want to.
Only recently have I gone back to the OEM mag as I grew tired of the Tapco ones, and found I enjoy using the magwell area as an alternate hand hold position on long outings.

The Ruskies made them mags to last unlike the Lada cars..... Plastic is what it is.
