any 222 remington reloaders out there?

so the rifle i was storing for my FIL just became mine, got a couple hundred pieces of brass i bought a set of dies to start reloading for it, my problem is during a "clean up" the wife doesnt remember where my manual is, & yes i could look the info up but i'd like to hear from guys who've actually done it, so does this sound right:

1.7 case length
2.1 OAL
22gr of powder under a 50gr .224 projectile

thats info i got from my FIL lol
 
What powder are we talking about? Why are you reloading without having any reloading data on hand? Why take anyone's word on a load? What works for me may not work for you.

Unless the data on the net is from a powder/bullet company, take it with a grain of salt. You can find loads that will stand your hair on end that shoot one hole groups in the poster's rifle.
 
Case length and AOL are within reason, powder charge weight would depend on the powder and individual load components. I love my .222, one of the easiest rifles I own to load for. Disclaimer - confirm info from a reliable source, not random internet dude like myself!
 
If you can give us some more info ,such as bullet type, weight & powder's you have access to. Maybe someone might have a manual they could scan/copy & post it or email you the recommended data.

haven't started loading yet, haven't even deprimed spent brass yet lol, just doing some research, & wont start loading til ive found the manual or got a new one (never have too many lol) & powder i'll be using is H4198

havent decided on a bullet type yet as this is a new to me rifle, probably stick to a 50gr projectile, but am open to suggestions, powder i have is H4198, again open to suggestions as the 1.5lbs i have probably won't last once i get started
 
If you're on here you have access to the biggest reloading manual available, the internet
I'd have to look up my 50 grain loads as I pretty much stick to 40 grainers
 
any ideas as to the value of this rifle? i get the feeling he just wanted it out of the house cuz now theres grandkids & 99% of his shooting is with me at the range lol
 
Most 222 Remingtons using 50 grain bullets will accept from 19-21 grains of H4198.

Other great powders for the 222 are IMR 3031 and W748.

I load from 40 grns to 50 grn SP bullets, pushed by Varget. Awesome cartridge, easy to load almost impossible to screw up. The 40 grns really fly. Perfect for small game ( fox and varmin ) a lot quieter than most new rounds out there.

just keep them all separate from any 223/556.
 
Vamx bullets from hornady shoot well in my 222. I use reloder7 powder and a CCI 450 primer with 40 gr. Vmax bullets, 21.5gr is my load with Lake city brass.
 
Hodgdon's reloading site is only a couple of clicks away. I use it all the time as my books are getting very out of date. My old duece likes H4198 with 50 gr. Hornadys.
 
I wnet with heavier bullets and never ending up trying anything lighter. Mine likes 19.5 gr imr 4198 with the Sierra 53 gr hp's as well as Hornady 55 gr sx's (don't remember the weight offhand). It's an old rem 700 with a tuned factory trigger otherwise totally stock. It's also the least fussy to load for. It is the first rifle I bought and it set the accuracy bar too high for every rifle I've owned since. I hate it for that. :)
 
Many great powders for 222 have been mentioned but one not mentioned is VT 133 its the cats me-yow.
90% + benchrest shooter shooting 6mmppc use VT 133
Like 52 & 53gr bullets Sierra and Bergers, I have found V maxs get to many flyers maybe its that plastic tip thing ?
 
I use IMR 4198 in my 222. 19.8 grains behind 50 grain sierra soft points. 21.0 grains behind 45 grain sierra round nose hornet bullets. I also have a load of 21.0 grains behind 35 grain v-max bullets. they all shoot exceptionally well. tried 50 grain v-max bullets but like manitou210 I had more flyers than I like. I think it is because the v-max bullets being boat tailed are to long for the 1-14 twist to stabilize effectively. all the bullet I use now are flat based including the 35 grain v-max. primers are cci 400 small rifle in all loads. rifle is a savage 340b.

I have used 133 as well and have a great load with Speer tnt 50gr bullets
