.22cal projectiles are twice as heavy but only about 20% slower then .177cal.
I like .177 for <500fps as they are cheaper to shoot lots of, and decent out to 15-20m. For the high power guns I like the larger .22 as it handles wind better and carries more energy down range.

In the link below they say the opposite, .177 pellets have the flattest trajectory. Now I don't know which caliber I will buy and I'm also interested in a air pistol.

...Which is important for killin' critters, but not for making holes in paper.



OP, consider a vendor like DL and look for something over 495 fps. 1000 is pretty popular. Springers can be shot accurately, but require mastering the artillery hold and matching your gun to the right pellet.

PCP shoots more consistently, but might be tough at that budget.
