Favorite or go-to .308 or 30.06 rifle for hunting?

I'm in the market for a new 308. Ive been buying, selling, borrowing for the last few years trying to figure out my go-to 308. Its one of my favorite rounds and am not looking at anything different right now. Have to fill that void.

I read all of the "this or that" comparison threads. But what are you folks actually using for hunting?

Right now I've narrowed it down to a Tikka T3, Rem 700 or Winchester Model 70. The next purchase is hopefully going to be the end of the search (for now...)

What's your favorite? I'm not concerned too much about weight, within reason. I also don't want to go Merkel or high end Sako or such things, as I'm hard on the hunting rigs and see no need for it (or money for it).

What's your go to? I added 30.06 because they seem to be even in popularity(ish) and they are similar rifles.

Where does this search end!

Thanks,

Mack

Well now................ BLR, Ruger 77, S1, S2, Tikka, Mauser 98, Husqvarna, Ruger, shucks, lots to go with.

Nawt the Axle.
Or that Remington p.o.s.

An easy choice from the two options given, as I don't have a .308. I'll go with the model 4100 Husqvarna Light Weight in .30-06 that was passed down to me when my Dad passed away.

It 'got the call' a few years ago for my first Mule Deer on draw in Alberta, my:d Daughter being my resident guide.

When I pass it on, it will likely go to one of my;) right handed Granddaughters back there. With help from Walmart, while back on a babysitting mission a few years ago, I started 'training/preparations' for that day.

Boringly reliable and accurate with a large capacity floorplate magazine.

BRNO 600 30-06.

The older 700 Remingtons were an excellent rifle and now because of the bad PR generated by the newer series the older ones can often be found for a good price.

Thanks fellas.

If Its the Win, I was looking at the extreme weather stainless or the coyote light. I haven't handled either particularly. The model 70s I've handled always had a nice finish.

I almost bought the Tikka T3 stainless last week. Just wasn't sure enough to drop that coin. I wanted to hear the opinions first.

Tikka T3 Battue Lite in 30-06. Lightweight, 20 inch barrel, 5-round DM, fibre-optic open sights and a QD scope set-up. Great trigger and very accurate !

I've got this rifle and it's terrific. Nothing bad about it at all.

For hunting, and nothing but hunting, I'd buy a T3 Lite Stainless Synthetic in 30-06, a limbsaver recoil pad ($40), an extra magazine ($100), talley lightweight extra-low rings ($65), and a Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 scope ($475 new or $625 on the EE)

Steyr SSG-69 is my go to hunting rifle. With a good Zeiss scope, anything within 400 meters is in the freezer. Also have an older 700 that really likes 180 gr bullets. Either one will do anything I ask of them
