Good morning,

Prone target rifle shooting has recently grabbed my interest. I've been to the APRA webpage and saw the requirements for the rifles. I am wondering where do people start their builds? Or what do they buy to use? I am located near Calgary so if there are any shops I should go see any advice would be awesome. I am not necessarily interested in competing just the style of shooting. Open sights, prone target rifle.

Thanks,

Karl

Karl,
The best place to start is to come out and have a look. The provincials are on 28 to 30 of August at homestead and their's a new shooter day in late September.

By all means, go and watch. It will give you an excellent idea about what is involved.
Buying a used TR would be the most cost effective way to get a rifle. In addition to the rifle, you will need a lot of other kit, including a spotting scope.
Incidentally, open sights are not used.

Yes, they are peep sights, as opposed to the "open" sight you would find on a BB gun. Generally referred to as "irons", to differentiate from telescopic sights.
