Shoot em or Pull em?

Finally broke down and bought two full boxes of Federal blue box 150's and 175's for my 7mm Rem Mag. All I want is the brass, but have been unable to get a hold of any for the last year and a half. This is cheaper IMO than starting a new load from scratch due to a case change.

I thought about just shooting them, but maybe I ought to pull them and then the brass will go further on my handloads. I would imagine if I pull them all, the powder isn't good for anything else, and I'll have to fire each primer off in my rifle.

What do you guys think?

I would shoot them, that will fire form them to your chamber too, not that it matters too much when FL sizing.

The down side to firing them is that you will lose 1 firing on the brass life and perhaps a little barrel wear (if that is really a concern for you with this calibre).

The other option is to post them for trade on the EE for brass. Maybe someone in your area doesn't reload but has lots of the brass.... Worth a shot if you don't want to suffer the above two slight "down sides"
 
7mm remmag brass is hard to find? Not where I shop. If I was stuck purchasing loaded rounds to get brass, it wouldn't be Federal, as I find Federal to be the lowest quality commercial brass that I have used.

First off it is spelled Counterintuitive, it's one word not two. Secondly why would you think it is dangerous? All you have to do is go slow on your press handle to deprime them.
 
It seemed sketchy to me the first time I deprimed live ones, but they pop out just fine with smooth consistent pressure on the press.

Also, don't worry about the spelling police. It seems strange, some (hehe) times, to write conjunctive words like counterintuitive as one word.

I've done this a bunch of times and re-used the primers. It's not at all dangerous if done right.

The trick, and it's not much of a trick, is to make contact with the decapping pin in the primer softly then increase the pressure smoothly without a snap of the wrist. A smooth build over a half second pushes them out without the sharp impact needed to set them off. And they are easily re-used.
 
Like stubblejumper said, federal wouldn't be my first choice for brass. I found in my 7mag the primer pockets got loose after only a few firings.

I'd just shoot them. It's actually pretty accurate stuff in my rifle if I get a good box.
 
Shoot 'em off, some for group and some for fun. If nothing else you may find that one or both shoots well in your gun and its nice to know that there's a factory load that you could use if you had to. If nothing else, bang 'em off off-hand, you can't get too much practice at that. Federal wouldn't be my first choice for the brass, but ironically its right up there for odds of a factory load shooting.
 
Fire them to fireform the case for your rifle. Lots of precision shooters will tell you they don't consider virgin cases precision till after the 1st fire to fireform them to their rifle.
