So, I have a new 550 Safari in .375 H&H. I also had a spare Leupold VIII 2.5x8 that I thought would be perfect but not quite the case.

With the Talley rings the body is slightly too short and the the front ring is off the dovetail by about 3/16".

Offset rings? Or what lower powered scope bodies are better suited to this action size?

Thanks Much,
Dirk

if you dont mind the look, there are a few one piece pic rails that use the stock dovetails. The prob is that they bridge over the receiver , but at least it will offer you a solution.

Beautiful gun, by the way.

I had the same problem and offset rings fixed it without putting an ugly rail on a beautiful wood rifle.

Same here. I had a 4x Scopechief on this rifle, and when I went to replace it with Leupold VXIII 2.5-8, I found out the scope tube was too short to fit on the same rings and bases. The offset front ring was the most rational answer. This gun top loads, and ejects the empty at fairly high angle; The offset ring did not interfere with either.
