Sako Bavarian Carbine

Too bad Remington didn't make those MS in 358Winchester instead of 350RM. The 35Rem one would be cool though.

A .35 Rem would be pretty easy to rechamber to .358 Win... I have done a few and all ended up with excellent accuracy with 225-250's.

I am building an M77 MKII RSI in .358 now.

Worked up another grain today, and it shot even better. Six shots all went into .820", five in under .6". At 10 degrees , velocity averaged 2725fps, not a lot of increase, but R-22 is temperature sensitive, and it was 18 degrees cooler today. I do need to get another plug for my seater die, as some bullets are still being damaged when seating. It doesn't seem to effect accuracy, but I still want to make the issue go away.

Excellent cartridge choice and a sweet rifle. My full stock swede is a CZ and I'm shooting a similar load but with the standard 130g Accubond. It's a great bullet for this cartridge and I punched one clean through a huge cow elk last fall at over 300 yards. You're not going to regret this set up.

I still think that the factory-issued Sako 85 Bavarian Carbine is just way too bulky, heavy and unwieldy for a carbine. Almost as bad as a Zastava. Compared to my Mannlicher-Schoenauer, HVA fullstock or older model Brno, its a log. And with any sort of scope it becomes an even heavier log. And bulky. I have big hands but the size of that pistol grip is ridiculous. Thats why I had the stock work done. ..to convert it into the rifle that Sako should have made to start with.... My fullstock Sakos from the 50's and early 60's are light, fast-handling carbines but Sakos seem to have been getting heavier and bulkier every year since the mid-60's.

Also...I don't think I was ever asking $4300....not even close to that as I recall. Trades interest me way more than cash anyway. I'll get it back up on WTT one of these days.

That sako was listed for sale several months ago. He was asking $4300, I believe. While I guess he put a lot of money into the custom-worked stock, it is still a bavarian carbine and that price was ridiculous imo. so no shock it hasn't moved.

i was eying the one at epps as well. too bad it sold. it was a great deal. and awesome calibre for the platform.
