average 2500 round's, minus the original winny barrel accuracy started to fall off around the 1400 mark. My two .300's are my go to rifle's for long range target shooting & hunting.
And yes, I shoot a lot & I mean a lot. It's not a weekend thing for me, & I don't set my barrels back to get another couple of hundred round's, when the accuracy start's to fade, I replace it.

Question, Do you use muzzle brake on your rifle ?
 
2500 rounds per barrel would make about a thousand rounds per year in that equation. Interesting that you did that with a hunting rifle configuration and not a dedicated target rifle configuration.

KDN to answer your ? , yes on my HS Precision Rifle in 300 WM I have a (Grizzly) Ghost Protocol clamp on muzzle brake & my Model 70 (Oliver) in .300 wm I don't use a muzzle brake.

Jethunter to answer your ? I have 2 model 12 LRP's in 243 & 260rem. I also have numerous other firearms that I have acquired over the last for 40 + year's. I like what I like & those .300wm's have put a lot of mile's on with me. And with the good lord willing, they will accompany for a few more mile's & maybe few more barrels if needed. You know it's kind of like this, I have 2 pick-up trucks in the yard a old ford ( little Henry) & a fairly new Chevy.
It's kinda funny but I always grab the key's for the old Ford.....

Hi gang....not trying to hijack but seeing how we're talking about reloading the 300wm. ..I'm just starting to load for the 300wm and I have some h4350, hornady brass and 165gr gmx's. Can't find any load data for this combo could someone suggest a place to find it or give me some info? Thanks!

Hornady list the 165 & H-4350 @ 58.3gr as a min & 71.4gr max.
You can also go online to the Hodgdon web site and get load data for their powder's...

I'm using IMR4831. I've only just started and have been putting 180Gr Hornady SST's on top of 70-74gr of powder. Not having fantastic results, but I've been told that Weatherby liked to engineer their rifles with a longer throat, I've been seating my rounds to the same depth as the Winchester factory loads I had been buying. I need to figure out how deep the throat is on my rifle so I can try again with properly seated rounds, hopefully they'll still fit in the magazine. Best result so far have been 2" groups @ 100yd's with 73gr of IMR 4831 in assorted Federal/Winchester brass with WLRM primers.

So if anyone is reloading a Vanguard S2 in 300WinMag and have any advice I'm open to it.

Try backing off in half grain increments. I was using 4831 for a bit but was getting wacky velocity readings. Switched back to Imr 4350 and went up to 73gr in that, was getting 2-3 inch groups, I backed it off half a grain and BINGO!! 3/4 inch groups and 3225 fps average with a Speer Grand Slam 165!
. some guns can be really finicky.

After a whole lot of load testing with different powders and 180-200 gn bullets in several different 300s, I found IMR 7828 to give the highest velocity and consistently good to excellent accuracy. If I buy a new 300 these days I just go right to 7828 immediately to start my testing. And I always use mag primers in all my belted cases, just an old habit..........Like Dave said I also use magnum primers with ball powders and some larger non belted cases when the powder charge starts to get around 55-60 grns. I also never know if that load or rifle may be used in +50 C or possibly in -50 C, so I always use magnum primers in any larger capacity cases or when using ball powders.

Since H414 is slightly faster burning than is IMR 4350, it would be OK with lighter bullets.

I am certain you would have better results overall with slower powders, using 165 grain and heavier bullets.

The accuracy may be good, but potential velocity will be down a bit.

Have you noticed any significant temperature sensitivity with 7828 with that temperature spread?

I am a little curious also with those type of extreme temperature's & also what are you getting for ES with velocity. c-fbmi would you be able to give some more detail's?

I really only concern myself with the upper temp range and tailor my loads so I don't blow primers when in Africa, as that would be a serious cluster f**k. When working up loads in winter I keep them on my dash with the truck running and heater on full so they feel quite warm to the touch and I keep them inside my parka and fetch them out one at a time when shooting them. As far as the -50 hunting goes, the high arctic critters aren't a terribly spooky lot and most shots are relatively close, like inside 300 mtrs, so I've never really concerned myself with cold weather ballistics or performance..........they go bang and stuff falls down.............I have never bothered to chronograph at these temps as it's just too big a PIA and I'm fairly certain the LCD display won't work below -20C, not to mention about 5 shots per battery life............like I said, just too big a PIA.
I have noticed about a 2 foot difference in hold at 500 mtrs from +20C to -30C with my different silhouette rifles. We all had winter settings and summer setting in the old days and a lot that used ball powder in summer switched to stick powders in winter.
I have never gone and set my ammo out at -30 or colder and let ammo and rifle drop to these temps and then tried shooting at 3-500 mtrs...........When I'm hunting in the extreme cold I keep 5 rounds in my shirt pocket and none in the gun, when ready to shoot I reach in and use this ammo that is about +35C. Like I said high arctic critters aren't particularly spooky, one can usually get into shooting range and position before needing ammo in the rifle.
