So I will be upgraded to an R-Pal soon and I'm thinking of getting an AR-15 in the new year, So I've been looking at getting a North eastern arms AR-15.... So are these worth the money? Second are they chambered for both .223 and 5.56?

I'd stick with a Colt. Get your AR chambered in 5.56 so you can fire both 223 and 5.56 and everything's gonna be aaaaaalright.

Do a quick search and you'll find some people hate them and some people like them. It seems they had some quality issues in their earlier products, which seem to have been addressed in later models. I own a 10.5" NEA and have really had no problems with it. I find it gets dirty fairly quickly using Norc Surplus and needs a good cleaning after 2-300 rounds of surplus (no surprise there). I think they typically chamber them for 5.56 which works fine for .223. They have had a lot of bashing on CGN, which may be justified from some of their earlier products, but seems mush less of late with the newer stuff coming out. I'm sure you will get a flood of responses on both sides of the discussion.

Bottom line for me, I like mine, it shoots well, sometimes needs a good cleaning cuz of the dirty norc ammo and I like it. I dropped a Geiselle S3G trigger into it and it was a nice upgrade.

There are a number of reasonably priced AR's these days, is there anything special that draws you to NEA?

I'm thinking of getting the 18" DMR. What drawing me to them is that they are Canadian made, or atleast assembled in Canada.

I'm also very very temped to get the one in 7.62x39 instead of 5.56.... however I can try to find a reasonble priced 7.62 upper though.

Before you buy, DO A SEARCH FOR NEA threads on CGN. Read the resulting threads, then decide if you want to buy one or not, but have some research done so we don't get another NEA thread in a couple weeks.

I'll save you the search time. Don't buy NEA. It's a coin toss really if you get a good one or a bad one. I'd rather buy a used norinco than a brand new nea.if money is a concern, save your money until you can afford a reputable brand.

Do your research. Do it well. (there is PLENTY of info in here)

If you come to the conclusion that an NEA is worth buying, you and only yourself will be to blame if the outcome isn't good.

Look in the EE here... there are lots of choices

full disclosure, I do have an NEA based build for sale, with none of the complaint issues.. different BCG and Quad Rail for starters. It is the 18" DMR barrel

And in all honesty, I really like the quality and fit of the billet upper/lower. The BCG fits nice and runs sooth as silk, and I like the colour and look of the finish. It would go well with either OD or OD Green stock set

I bought a few and build one every once in a while when I am bored :)

No matter what you read the one thing that is consistent in all the stories good or bad is that any NEA rifle that has ever had any issues was repaired or replaced for free. NEA has the best customer service and support of any brand we can get in Canada.
I own three lowers and four uppers and have owned numerous other AR's in the past and my NEA build (upper, lower, and BCG) runs just as well as any of the others I've shot or owned.
Just remember that you always hear about the problems on the internet but rarely do people post about something working the way it was supposed to. We love to complain, lol.

x2 They had some defective BCG's made for them in the first run, and few other things. But they seem to have taken care of people.

Repairing a f**ked up product that you let out the door is the least any company could should and would do if they wanted to survive.

There are better built guns from companies with a better track record for equal or similar money. Look elsewhere and do your research.

Seems like the newer ones don't have the same issues, and their customer service has been good. If you really want Canadian made there are a few more options nowadays, but not many.

I advise all my friends to consider CORE or Windham if they're looking at starter ARs; Daniel Defense, Colt or Stag if they can afford a little more. You can find some great deals on the EE right now.

Do a search going back three years. Then make your own decision after reading ALL the threads. problems are happening even with "new" rifles. Bolts coming apart after less than 10 rounds, things like that. IMO you should buy ANYTHING other than NEA. Buy a norinco if you have only a little money. buy a DD or spike if you have more money. Buy a COLT Canada rifle if you have even more money. The colt Canada rifles are the finest available IMO.

I have built two based on used NEA parts sourced on cgn EE

Both run perfectly and knock wood no issues to date.

Both are quite accurate. My 14.5" consistently groups 1/4" and my 10.5 groups 1/2" at 50 meters.

If u build one from parts my suggestion is to use an NEA upper and lower to avoid issues some have described where other manufacturers upper or lower won't fit nea's upper or lower. I have never experienced this first hand.

I will say this though, it is no ATRS or DD or LMT in terms of the feel and balance, but all the NEA's I have shot and handled have an exceptional upper to lower fit with no wiggle, and the blunt look to them, and and the fact they are made in Canada was one of the things that attracted me to the NEA's.

Now if they would only make an AR-180B variant with an ali lower that was non-restricted :)

You're right, it's the least a company should do when an item makes it out the door and has problems. The point is that NEA does do that and that's more customer support than you'll get from a lot of companies. Try sending a US built rifle back for warranty, some have a Canadian service center and others you rely on the importer or retailer for assistance.
When I had my brand new HK USP Tactical explode in my hand I had to send it back to the importer and they immediately said I was using handloads therefore no warranty and they sent it back. I couldn't get them to talk to me about it or even discuss options for me paying to repair it. They wanted nothing to do with it once they got my money and decided it wasn't a warranty issue.
Every company has growing pains and NEA had a few, they changed suppliers to get rid of the bad bolts they were getting and they've been improving their product steadily since then.

I won't write off NEA just because they had some problems in the past and still have the odd issue from time to time. I think they make a good AR for an entry level price. And the upper, lower and BCG I run in my 16 inch build work well and fit with any brand of parts I throw at it. I like knowing that if I have trouble with any of my NEA parts that it's just a quick email or phone call and the problem will be on it's way to being corrected.
Their rifles are no where near the quality of my PWS but at more than double the cost I expect my PWS to be a better rifle.

Would I pick NEA as my go to rifle for WROL? No.
Would I pick NEA as a decent AR to make some holes in paper and ring some gongs at the range? Of course.
My life doesn't depend on my rifle and if I have an issue I like that I know it will be dealt with promptly and directly by the manufacturer at no cost to me.

I have two.
One had an issue with the upper and it was replaced by NEA.
My biggest complaint are the take-down pins. They are too tight and I have to punch them out.

For the price of a new one I'd buy something else, but for EE prices (under 700.00 shipped) I'd get one.
