I bought some Hornady .308 brass last year. I tried a couple pieces (unloaded of course!!!) and they chambered fine, so I just neck sized them. I would think that you should absolutely size the neck before seating a bullet. To just neck size you need to use a neck-sizing die. It doesn't touch the body, just resizes the neck. Normally you can get away with a few neck sizings before the body grows and you need to bump it back to let the rounds chamber. YMMV
I've read that, that can go bad .No you don't, you can easily neck size with a FL die set. I do it frequently.. FS
I've read that, that can go bad .
Also, you don't need lube on new brass
do you back your die out about one and a half turns for this?Bump em through your sizing die, just to true up the necks.
that sounds easy enough. But what about when it's once fired out of my rifle. ( that's what I was getting at with , by unscrewing the die a turn and a half). Why must you guys always full stroke everything?
Just Bump em! You're just getting the necks back to being round.
Insert case in shell holder
Raise the ram, feel the case neck engage the neck portion of the die.
Reverse the stroke
Done!
No pizz willying with your die setting.
No muss.
No fuss.
The cases already are SAAMI spec or smaller, full stroking is not needed.
