Got to go to the Daniel Defense facility in Black Creek.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share my little adventure with you.

We had decided to explore the deep south and began planning a few months ago. Knowing that DD operates a shop in Black Creek, I thought I'd reach out to the for a tour. I used their "contact us" option on their page. Unfortunately I didn't get a response, so being a fan I thought "F$&@ it, I'll just stop by".

I'm currently visiting the AWESOME state of Georgia. We were traveling by rental car to Savannah and Black Creek was one the way. I pulled off the highway and took a turn onto War fighter way and I was there.

I was hesitant that I'd actually get anywhere given I'm no vendor, and this is a place of business, but I may only be in Georgia once so I figured I best try.

I rang the buzzer and a friendly lady answered.I played my sob story about being an owner of their rifles and having travelled all the way from Canada. The only questions asked were:

1.) Are you armed? -nope
2.) Do you have a phone or recording device on you?
- just my cell, which I threw back in the rental.

I was allowed into the lobby and a couple of gentlemen we're leaving with swag. The friendly lady at the lobby spoke with me for a couple of minutes and then paged a guy from sales to come show me around.

First off, the people of this company are amazing, they were friendly, hospitable and gave away cool swag! Oh, and they are pretty knowledgeable.

I wasn't allowed onot the floor as their is currently ATF (I think) regulations against non citizens in the area.

Anyways, I was allowed to go to an observation window and look out on the floor. I had a host of questions answered including when the 7.62 is coming out. I was shown the engineers area and the cool stuff they tinker with as well as the sales offices where I was provided some great free-bees. I could see the hammer forge machine and some other equipment also.

Not only does Daniel Defense look after their product, they really look after their customers. If anyone gets a chance to pass through, it's definitely a must see.

If anyone has questions I'll try and answer. They didnt really tell me any company secrets but did say some nice things about Wolverine.

It's due out in October. I asked if it was easy to build the platform on a larger scale. The sales rep said no, it's been out to the range quite a few times and back into the shop to be modified and corrected.

They've put a lot of rounds through up scaled model and constantly tweaked it to be a flawless product. There's no real ETA for it to land in Canada but given that it's so late in the year he figures we may see them sometime 2016 depending on the demand in the US.

Interestingly, this location only does the steel components. So they don't actually pump out full rifles. It depends on some factors. He figures they probably punch out 2100 a month total and then all their individual components for sale.

Also, a cool little fact: Marty, the owner believes there are no blemishes - only garbage. If something is out of spec it isn't discounted And sold off to staff. It's ran through a second lone of QA to make sure it's actually out of spec then sent to engineers to see what went wrong and then trashed. Between the facility, the staff, and office space it's easy to see that quality is taken seriously.

Don't know how long you're going to stay in Savannah, but try and see a few of the famous squares. The one they filmed the famous scene in Forrest Gump where he's sitting on a bench talking was filmed there, but that square isn't around anymore IIRC. Old Savannah down by the river is nice, but too touristy. If you can, head east to Tybee Island. Nice relaxing place to take the family

BTW, you can walk around the city with an open drink - no bag required. I walked around with either a gin/tonic or a scotch neat in my old fashioned. Very civilized place.

DO NOT touch the Spanish moss you'll see everywhere. Certain mites can infest them, and they're a PITA if they jump onto your skin.

Try and visit Bonaventure Cemetery. Beautiful place. Don't let the fact it's a cemetery throw you....it's history, monuments, and list of people (along with their quirky last requests) is a once in a lifetime thing to see. Especially moving is the area reserved for the boys who fell during the Civil War.

Also try and make it to Forsyth Park. They have a copy of the fountain found at Place de Concorde in Paris. The Confederate memorial is something to see as well (and don't call it "The Civil War"........it's "the War of Northern Aggression" in those parts.)
