what is the best available nonrestricted modern semi auto rifle in .308/762x51 nato? is it a toss up between a number of rifles? pics would be cool!

There's only a few to choose from, I suspect... and it depends a lot on your budget.

Browning BAR, Norinco M305/M14, Robinson Arms XCR-M, Remington 750, Springfield Armories M1A, Kel Tec RFB, FAMAE SG542, ATRS Modern Hunter... I'm sure I'm missing some (the custom jobs in particular) and there's a lot more in the restricted or bolt-action world.

One can also consider an M1 Garand in .308 or 7.62x51. After my real US GI M14 became a safe queen I decided to go this route.

As mentioned earlier, the ATRS Modern Hunter would be a good choice. Reports have it regularly getting 1/2 MOA groups.

Really? I must have missed those reports. I've seen groups posted , of 1 1/2 inch groups. I do recall 1 group that was under an inch but that was at the very beginning and it was at 50 yards . Maybe need to see some more hand loading reports.

Get the non-restricted one that fits you and turns your crank. "Best" is something likely never really settled.

Something that fits AIA mags boosts the desirability as that is kind of the point of having a semi-auto.
