Caribou down, first one and got it with the 9.3x62

You getting ready to do it again, soon?

Ted
Not for another 2 weeks, hopefully cooler then.
Congrats on the nice animal.
Thanks, hoping to make it to SK for upland sometime.
Thank you.
Congrats and well done. ;)Like your calibre choice as well, the 9.3x62, aka :)the '.366 Wagner'. Any details on your rifle??
LOL The rifle has a history, the fella from Whitehorse knows it much better than I.

Excellent story and great pics, Thank You for sharing your adventure! WK
Hopefully there is another one this fall with my wife in it, got to get the info sent to get the "new" stock cut down.

The gaff topsail herd has dispersed quite a bit over the years. Family has a spot on crooked lake in heavily wooded country across the highway from the gaff. In the past 10-15 yrs we have seen a lot of caribou in this area. 25 yrs ago it was unheard of.

What does caribou taste like? More like deer, moose, elk etc?
Definitely not like deer, much milder, different than moose. I have tried elk once and can't really remember what it tasted like but it may be similar. My wife really likes caribou, even more than moose, if she likes it than it is pretty good as she is not a big fan of game meat. Kids love it. She only wants us to get caribou tags now. :d Hopefully she is successful this fall with her caribou tag. I picked up a Zastava in 6.5x55 for her from WeakKnee, going to have to restock it though as the LOP is way to long. The stock from The Ugly 9.3x62 will have a new home here in the east, an easier life shooting 120 and 140 grain 6.5 instead of 320 grain 9.3;)

You are welcome.Hopefully there is more to come, my wife drew a tag for this fall in the same area.

There are more around just not a lot, numbers are down a lot still on the island and on the mainland in Labrador they are extremely low, population is greater on the island than in Labrador. FYI there are 2 parts to the province, Newfoundland is an island and Labrador is on the mainland, borders Quebec.

congrats
Nice photos and great story, you brought back great memories for me
I hunted in the James Bay area for 10 years and miss it dearly
thanks again
