Bullet choice for a 7 08

Only have witnessed one mule deer taken with a 120 TSX going 3050fps out of a 22" barreled 7-08. At 80 yards it was a bang flop with a lung shot. So if you are considering mono-metal, and keep the ranges sane say <250 yards, then I can say this will work well for you on deer sized game. Less recoil and such performance cannot be overlooked. Use 120gr sierra Game Kings for practice and you are good to go.

I also like the other 139/140gr offerings but would not hesitate taking even an elk/moose with the 120 TSX at close <100 yard range on a boiler room shot. MY2c

The 7-08 does not need any monometal bullet to kill well, and I am hesitant to endorse them for the 7-08.

I've used Barnes in the past a couple times. I recovered a bullet from a mulie doe I got around 10 or so years ago.

The bullet performed perfectly. The four petals opened up and curled down almost symmetrically, the final width of the petals being 0.594. It didn't shed ANY weight whatsoever. Behind the mushroom was over 3/4" of bullet driving it through whatever it hit. It was a quartering towards me shot, but I honestly don't remember where exactly the bullet hit. I do remember it dropped right there in it's tracks.

I personally don't think monolithic bullets are the answer for the 7mm08 either. I strayed away from them as I found the partitions to do what I needed to and I could always find them.

130gr. Speer Boattails.

This little lady agrees:

Awesome pics! Showed my son... tried to set him up... he said; "I already have a girlfriend," I said; "No ring yet... you can always trade up..." his girl doesn't hunt.

Those pics are when my daughter was 14, 15, and 17.
She turns 20 this December.
And her boyfriend of 2.5 years might just have a thing or two to say, about your son......

Although her boyfriend doesn't hunt.......;)

But does he come with a trade ticket, or other professional accreditation?

Looking good so far.

There's just the matter of him meeting the approval of 2 other people.

1 being her brother, 3 years her junior. Who's a wanna be welder/millwright, outdoor junkie, truck monkeying, red neck extraordinaire.
2, Her grand mother, who she lives with in the big city, 82 yrs young, of Romanian stock, fresh off the farm, who will make him eat till he busts.

Her brother will love him... and every grandmother loves him, because he is polite and has a big apetite. He is into extreme sports, rock climbing and skiing, and is crazy about the outdoors, but is also far more traditional in his tastes than his old man, he drives an SUV and Yamaha V-Star...

And don't forget the Ruger No.1 and goats... ;)
