Today I was at the range, and went for a walk to check the pistol berm. Threw away a few large rocks and found a lot of projectiles, lots of 9mm 45 and 22's. Some were mushroomed, others (lead), well deformed, and yet a bunch l(fmj) looked in very nice shape. Now I am not that cheap, and not debating this as an economical way to reload, but I am curious if anyone has ever tried reloading them. Mainly I'd like to know what results you got, and how was the accuracy.

I guess I had a "hmmm I wonder what would happen" moment!

When the snow melted this spring , I found most of my 9 mm and 45lc projectiles , just lying there on the ground. Th 45 LC were a bit smaller in diameter. The only marks on them were the rifling. I reloaded about a hundred of each and fired them all without any loss in accuracy or any other issues .

it's crazy how little damage happens to FMJ bullets when fired into snow, I've recovered a ton of 230g 45 and 124g 9mm that measured exactly the same as new bullets when weighed and miced.

i've reloaded the same bullet 3 or 4 times (230gr FMJ 45acp) when i fired it into homemade balistics gel. i can't speak as to the accuracy but as far as plinking goes it works. may as well get your monies worth from those FMJ's. for cast i would just recast.

HAHA and I wrote the original post the way I did so I would not get flamed as a cheap bastard!! (actually I just wanted to know) I thought for sure someone would call me crazy!

Those not fired into a snow bank might be imbedded with a bit of grit that would do bad things to the barrel. I for one wouldn't reuse them.

Of course I can not find it now, but during the end of the war in the Sandbox there was a video floating around of some tribe in the hills that where using reclaimed bullets and brass and making arms to send to the Taliban.
I maybe wrong in who the footage is, but the fact they where using reclaimed brass and bullets from the battle fields is in the footage.
Would I recommend doing this?
Not in this day and age, but of course your results may vary and those who do ..well your a braver man that I am.
If this where a great depression of a Federal NDP Gubberment I might try and be cheap, but my face and two eyes are more important that trying to save a few pennies.
Tight Groups.
