I wasn't thinking of Africa. I was remembering taking my T3 Hunter into the AB side of the Rockies, into the foothills. That calibre in that rifle with Leupold for glass was an amazing combo.
Only, where I hunt back home in ON I won't see elk or mulies, & most swamps or rivers here are too thick for open-country optics. Garand-type iron-sights are well-suited, considering the longest shot I've had at a moose was maybe 120-130m ?
If anything the only criticism of the 9.3mm Garand idea for here would be length/weight in thick brush, or getting in & out of a canoe.
Hey, if we're dreaming here; let's dream big, & in colour: shorter 'Tanker'-style Garand carbine, in 9.3x57mm !! More than enough for N/ON swamp-donkeys...
