I aquired this old Remington 810, was pretty bored so decided to give it a workover. Most guys probably would have tossed it.

Bead blasted off the rust then put it in the lathe and took a rough cut file to it, then 80 grit through 2000 grit emery, finished barrel with a hard felt wheel and Brownells 555 white.

A lot of careful hand work to remove pitting and save the factory engraving.

Not quite there yet, a few more hours of polishing needed.

Thanks, probably have at least 12 hours into it, worth far more than the gun. That's not the point though, it is a rewarding hobby for me.

Barn, Nova Scotia, bore was actually pristine & well oiled. Should probably get it Proof tested, barrel is at least .030" thinner than original LOL.

NOw THIS is the kind of post I love to read first thing on Thursday Morning! Beautiful work!

Can i ask what you used for bluing salts in your tank? Is that the brownells tank as well?

Amazing transformation of a clunker.
There must be more deserving guns for workmanship like that.
Congrats on your skill.

Good job on the blueing Skytop, I think we should all send you a small donation so you can buy a new pair of slippers to wear you must have at least three years on those well photographed shop loafers by now. They do look comfortable though. LOL keep up the good work. D.H.

Lol, yes David, a new pair of safety slippers would be great. My new shop hound thinks they are a great chew toy, she ate the insoles out of them :)

I started using oxynate 7 just because I got tired of searching for the Nitrates. People look at you funny when you ask for 100# of sodium nitrate. The tanks and stuff I bought used a few years ago.
