below, firearm Springfield 30.06 using Varget and HORNADY A-max

you mean Hornady A-Max, right?

if so you can use the 168 GR. HDY HPBT load on http://www.hodgdonreloading.com

30-06 with 165/168gr Hornady bullets & Varget as listed in Hornady manual : Start load 41.4gr & max 49.4gr's

COAL is determined by the magazine length of YOUR rifle, not theirs.

BTW, going by the Hornady A-Max book, the near max load @ 2700 fps is 47.1 gr. and shows a boatail.

When I type the data into Hogdens site, i get that as my starting load!

Book is 41.4 gr min to 47.1 gr max. I don't normally see this. I will go by the book to work up!

For C.O.L., i go by the book, unless it touches the lands, then seat bullet 0.005" deeper. Are you saying to increase COL past book value until it touches the lands and back up? Just curious.
