Hello CGNers,

I am looking to consolidate my gun cabinet. Too many guns not being used and only rimfires seem to be getting out these days. I currently have a Savage MkII, an NS522 (unfired), and a Winchester 490. Looking to sell these along with a couple centre fires and some Cooey shotguns and get myself one nice 22.

I like the idea of the volquartsen as they come with an accuracy guarantee and the Kidd's also seen to be pretty good. But I love supporting Canadian companies and the idea of a Dlask keeps coming back. The question I have, is a Dlask 22 (v block model) with the Dlask bolt, kidd trigger, etc... going to be compatible accuracy wise? Is the threaded option going to be better and justify the cost?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Dlask is fine but Volquartsen and kidd are the top of the line for semis.
Cooper for bolt actions also come with guarantees.
Wanstalls has Volquartsen
I complete kidd right is hard to come by. Iirc, Kidd rifles were a 1+ year wait.

Kidd front to back top to bottom. Accuracy but not cheap. Kept nothing original but receiver, all else is Kidd. I'll never get my money out of it but don't plan to sell and I enjoyed sourcing all the stuff. Bull barrel in an archangel stock and runs perfect. Kidd trigger, bolt buffer, charging handle, bolt and extractor.

I've had Dlask receivers and barrels, no problem with them at all. Actually debating buying another receiver then building another rifle out of all my left over parts. I've never had a problem with their stuff, and they're more accurate Than I am. So for now that's as good as it needs to be for me. As said already, I'm sure hoytcannon will chime in on this.

I have a Ruger with Valquartsen barrel etc. Very good & I am happy. If you want the best of those mentioned you will have a very hard time to beat the Kidd. A Dlask with Kidd parts would be a good way to go as well. All shoot better than me. Have tried the 50 yd challenge but cant seem to get all 25 rounds off with out me screwing up a shot on one target.

I am debating the exact same thing at the moment. Been doing a lot of reading on rimfirecentral, in the Ultimate 10/22 section in particular.

I am surprised by how many fantastically shooting rigs I read about on RFC that use the stock Ruger receiver, makes me think that the receiver is one of the components that is less critical to accuracy than others. ALL the fine shooting rigs have premuim barrels and triggers so that is where I would plan to buy premuim parts.

Considering a Dlask DAR-22 receiver and the rest of the parts being Kidd, my build wish list comes to about $1500 so far.

With our dollar in the tank right now it makes we worry that all USA sourced parts will only go up in price.

I just got in the rimfire game again after a few years , and was in the same mindset as the OP - however it was a little easier of a decision . Dlask was OUT from previous experiences dealing with them , and my eye was always on the Tac sol x-ring rifle set up .......... but then came along the Magnum research MLR22AT . Bought it on the spot , it was everything I was looking for.
Has a very nice LITE graphite barrel with the BENTZ chamber / aluminum receiver / in house bolt & charging handle -- and priced much better than Tac sol or the KIDD ( just under $800 )
very happy with the decision and as soon as I figure out what glass to put on it I'll be out shooting her

OP , consider the Magnum research rifle - it's worth a look

I have owned all of the rifles in question... both the VQ Superlite and Stainless action OEM and Kidd Supergrade OEM rifles... all of my Dlask rifles have been builds. Dlask will be significantly less money upfront, with good quality and accuracy. Both Kidd and VQ are superior rifles at a much higher cost. IMO, the best rifle is a combination of components from various manufacturers... they all do some part of the rifle best... IMO, Kidd makes the best trigger and bolt in the business, Kidd & Shilen makes the best barrel, VQ makes the best receiver, SC charging handle, RT decelerator spring etc... much of this is subjective of course and only represents my opinion... others will have their own favourites.

You don't say what you want to do with the rifle in question, so specific info is difficult.

But, it sounds like you don't want to do a build and you don't mind spending money... you cant go wrong with either a Kidd Supergrade or VQ Stainless Action rifle (just avoid the tensioned VQ barrels). Good shooting.

I would like to build a rifle to replace my hunting/plinking rifle (Winchester 490) and my training rig which is a Savage MkII with some work done to it. I'm not happy with the accuracy of either rifle.

I don't mind doing the build myself I just know nothing of the 10/22 platform. I've been a bolt gun guy for years. I thought the VQ's used a threaded barrel? Do they use a vblock as well?

Just buy the vq and be done with it I also have a magnum research rifle I like its lighter then the vq tactical x ring is also nice. If you got 2 grand kicking around buy a vq

Buy a VQ with the barrel threaded into the stainless receiver. Mine easily shoots sub moa at 100 yards, and has put 10 rounds into a .400" group at 50 yards.

I don't disagree... it would just have Kidd internals and a Kidd TG... and an SC handle on an RT spring rod, bedded into the Boyd's stock of choice.... kinda like a build.

I much prefer the McMillan stock on my rifle to any Boyd's stock. As for the internals, I have had absolutely zero issues of any kind with the rifle, and I wouldn't spend any money making changes.

Bedded MacMillan... Bedded Boyd's... Bedded whatever you like and fits...

As far as the internals... I would not buy the whole rifle and change it... but I would go the component route.... the upfront cost is too high on the whole rifle to warrant changes.

The Kidd TG is not a little better, it is significantly better.

I think Jo Brook in Brandon is an distributor for Kidd here in Canada. There might have been one other but Jo Brook is local for me so that's the one I remembered. I guess Fab Sports in the east is the other Canadian distributor.

Had considered a Kidd Super grade myself but this Canadian dollar in the tank has ruined some of my plans.

I'm in a similar situation and I would like to get a top of the line 22LR semi and I was leaning towards a Volquartsen Superlite with a bunch of options. I'm just curious on why you don't recommend their THM tensioned barrels. The rifle would be used for hunting and some plinking/target shooting.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
