The STURMGEWEHR 44/22 thread:

"Inconceivable!"

Here's an interesting clip featuring StG 44. It's an old Deutsche Wochenschau news reel with some footage of latterday Panzergrenadiere re-enactors cleverly (?) sandwiched in.
And look--they're processing Canadian POWs! "Inconceivable!"

BTW-- Just having a bit of fun. I'm sure there was no offense intended-- personal, political, national, or otherwise
(In no way am I endorsing or condoning Nazi ideology or doctrine).

sadly the one i bought was in the second batch that came in a cardboard box , i was hoping for a wodden crate . if someone would be kind enough to draw out some plans i would love to make my own

Any tips on how to get my scope sighted in without a boresighter? lol

Get a roll of shipping paper. I just COMPLETELY cover my target from top to bottom, so there are NO PREVIOUS HOLES from other shooters visible. (all under the Kraft paper) Then when you shoot, any hole you see on that target will be from your gun. Work from there.

Hammer it...

That sounds like it'd be OK.

I expect we could build one in about half an hour, and churn them out quicker if enough members wanted them. Once the materials
are on-hand it'd be dead easy, but IDK if we'd want to do it for that price. Too much time involved besides just the carpentry.
I didn't get mine in a wooden crate either, so I might be tempted to make one for myself just to transport my Stuggie in.
"Meh..." Most of the time it lives in my safe anyways, so...

But Ja, I think the EE one would be good if you're not into the whole DIY thing.

Find Big Cardboard

Thanks, Sarge. That's the way to do it!
It's no fun at all trying to hit a regular 100yd target with a new semi-auto--you have no idea where your bullets are going, and you end up wasting a lot of ammo.
I picked up a pad of large graph paper (24"x36") at 'Staples'. The squares are 1"x1" which makes sighting in pretty easy.
The trick is finding a sheet of cardboard that large. It's always worked to at least get me "on paper" at 25-50yd. with my first round.
Just remember to have a POA 'goal', even if it's just an "X" drawn in the centre of the paper with a marker pen.

I get a roll of christmas paper from the dollar store and cover target area with white side

Adjusting trigger pull

Have you figured out how to adjust the trigger pull on your StG 44/22 yet?
GSG mentions that feature's existence in their literature, and the little baggy in the crate contains a tiny Allen wrench,
but there's no mention of it in the manual.

Actually, there are several mystery tools in that baggy.:confused:

Granted it's been a bit since I put mine together, but I don't see the issue? Pop the stock off, pull out the innards and you can look down the bore. Your scope doesn't need the stock on. Put the barreled action in an adjustable varmint rest, or use some bags. Hang a target at 25 yards. Line up your bore for the centre by looking through it and making sure it's stable and in place. Then adjust your scope accordingly. I do this with a number of rifles. You don't need the whole rifle to bore sight it. As long as the barrel is attached to the upper receiver part that has the scope secured to it you can bore sight.

Just pull it apart...

Ah, yes, of course! Thanks for contributing that reminder.
It is indeed possible to peer down the bore of the StG 44/22! :HR:

I was thinking of my M-14 and lever actions. Still, I've never had much luck boresighting a (non-scoped) .22 with open sights.

The first trip to the range with my 'Stuggie', I had a hard time believing that the "05" setting was required in order to dial in a 50yd zero. As I said elsewhere, I think the rear sight is a direct copy of the original, calibrated on the 'Kurz' cartridge, so that "05" may have (optimistically?) represented 500m(?). When I set mine at "01" it was shooting 5" low at 25yd!

I'm planning on an optic for mine (even if it's just a red dot) mainly because I'm finding the factory rear sight mounted way too low for my comfort. I'm just waiting for the reviews of the "UTG 2nd Gen HK STANAG Steel Claw Mount" as ordered by #4307 to come in before I order one...
