after built and secured my workbench, finally got to setup dillon 550 I brought back two month ago. Surprisingly, when opening up all the caliber conversion kits, all the powder funnels from different calibers all have rust on them, some worse than others. after reading online, it seems to be a known problem. the questions are,

1. while some said we could use steel wool to polish it, how about inside? I can see rusty dot there as well? can I use stainless steel pins to tumble them like I do with the brass?
2. are all the rust dot affect function or create any problems with the ammo?

it's disappointing to see this coming from dillon.

Hi, thanks for the response. That's what I read on Google search before posting here, but my question was for inside. Still use steel wood? Or as I asked, use stainless steel pins to wet tumble and oven dry, just like for brass.

No big deal. Use steel wool with some WD40 , it's just a little surface rust it will come out or call Dillion and see if
They will send new ones

thanks Ganderite. I would be on the safe side to avoid WD40, just steel wool. Dillon replied with suggestion to apply car wax if unused. seems a hassle. don't understand why they use carbon steel, instead of stainless steel like the dies.

IF you use WD 40, you would want to wash with a solvent, to make sure you get it all off. Other wise it would pick up powder.

got the official response from Dillon on the stainless steel pin tumble. it's ok.

Yes, by all means you can use the stainless steel pins, in fact that’ll probably be more efficient as far as the cleaning is concerned. HOWEVER, since it’s liquid based you want to make sure that you immediately dry them after rinsing and then get them coated with wax or oil so that they don’t rust again.

Thank you for choosing Dillon Precision.
