Happy September 3rd 2015, and it's time to celebrate the implementation of C42 and we don't need paper ATT for approved CIVILIAN ranges. For DND bases, however, we still need them (different jurisdiction). Still a minor inconvenience but it still needs to be sorted out. You will still need a letter of invite from Chalkriver (numbah one pointman and organizer)

Anyways, I cannot get over the 2 FULL clinics (at 28 shooters) we have had over the past summer. Time to organize another and see if some others can make this one, even if it is in the middle of hunting season. I'll just be back in time from moose/rifle season. I am overwhelmed by the support I've received in the Valley especially among the QC shooters, so let's do this clinic one more time before the snow flies! :eek:

Where

CFB Petawawa Echo Range, but we will gather up at the White (P-141) Bldg, 5 bay garage doors, across from the Base Fire Hall (S-105). It's a quick right turn, immediately after you enter the main gate on base. Bring ID to show you are not a bad dude. :cool:

When

24-25 October 2015 Sat & Sunday
We usually gather around 0800 - 0830 and then convoy over to Range Control.

Cost

$80 for both days (go and find any instruction for that price point) ha ha ha ha
I'm only taking 28 shooters, first come, first served

Where to Stay

About 10-15min from range control (and right by Kelseys) http://www.petawawaqualityinnandsuites.com/
2 min from base with several fast food/pizza options close by http://www.petawawariverinnandsuites.ca/

Camping details:

The campsite is inexpensive and nice. Here are a few links.

Letters on Invite for your STATT

Once we sort out the EMT payment and registration; I will be directing you to my pointman and chief host: chalkriver

Material Focus

Everything I'll be teaching you is based on the CQB matches fired by the ORA at Langemark Range, CFB Borden.

Here's the bulk of the material from my www.tacticalteacher.ca website:

CQB Clinic Description (both restricted and non-restricted focus)

CQB Competition (like in the ORA - Ontario Rifle Association) :

* Snap shooting, rapid fire shooting, modified prone shooting
* Advance and fire shooting
* rapid magazine changes (since we don't use hi-cap mags in Canada)
* gear selection, gear manipulation, gear evolution (I'm gonna surprise ya big time...)
* What works in close and what belongs in the video games
* What works for you and what does not work for you
* Why you do up all your pouches and zippers especially before using the PortaPotty

CQB Gear to Bring:

Depending upon the focus of the type of CQB clinic

* Reliable , dependable, and tested RESTRICTED rifle & pistol

* Reliable, dependable NON-RESTRICTED rifle semi-auto loader: M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield, M14, M1A, etc
* Current club issued long term ATT or Short term ATT for guests, arranged by club host (chalkriver, my pointman)

* Optics (Aimpoint, EOTech, BUIS, iron sights, ACOG, ELCAN, 1x or 2x or 3x or 4x magnification scope)
* Bring over 400 Rounds of carbine ammo (distances inside 50m), bring the cheeep stuff
* Bring 100 rounds of pistol ammo
* Ensure you have reliable iron sights (USGI for you M14 lovers, I hope) or reliable/tested/proven optics
* Your vest or webbing must hold the 5 x 5/20 or the 5 x 5/30 magazines you will need, depends on your platform.
* Your vest should have pouches for 2 pistol magazines (restricted CQB clinic)
* Your vest or webbing should be reliable (read: avoid the mall ninja, airsoft renditions) so buy quality
* Single Point sling (Vickers, BFGear, Magpul MS3 MS4)
* Bring extra ammo whenever in doubt (better yet double my suggested round count)
* a bottle of lube (CLP, oil, grease, KY Jelly)
* 2 or 3 pens/pencils
* small rag
* ear protection (electronic means are recommended)
* Ballistic glasses are mandatory
* an open mind
* a sense of humor

* Lunch: Bring sandwiches/snacks/jerky/lots of drinks and more water than you think of . There will be NO time to drive from Echo Range BACK to base and other food outlets!

Caliber Restrictions

Understand that Petawawa Range Control has their rules and we must abide by them. Here are the ONLY calibers allowed to be shot at THEIR ranges:

22, 38 ,9mm ,40cal ,303 ,308 ,5.56 ,338 Lapua are the ONLY calibres allowed on those ranges.

It's THEIR Range setup, we must respect their wishes. End of story! :cool:

Also, please try and be there ON TIME! 8:15 is not a "suggested" arrival time.

While on the range we are about 7km from the nearest store...so make sure you bring a lunch and lots of water to drink. Portipotties will be on site .
A lawn chair is also a good idea as well if you have room.

October is also FALL season, so don't feel so bad if you showed up with an event tent! ha ha ha ha

I have lots of spaces and you returning shooters; don't feel guilty. We gave the newbies a fair shot to attend for the 05-06 September 2015 clinic. It's open season (metaphor warning) for anybody to come and sign up for the final CQB clinic of the year (2015). :)

Cheers and warmest regards! :wave: I'm in Virden, MB after a long day at the Wolverine Supplies site. Left the building at 1800 hrs.

Bad News ......I was just notified by Range Control that 7.62x39 is no longer allowed on the ranges we have access to .
So... SKS,s will not be allowed to be used for the clinic.

Unfortunately I can't make this clinic date anyway, but I am merely curious, that's all, if you are allowed to divulge what Range Control's issue with the 7.62X39 ammo was? Is it the steel jackets or steel core that's at issue?

I used my AR platform last time anyway, but I was thinking of someday maybe bringing a Vz.58 to a future Barney clinic (currently a work-in-progress to kit mine out with new stock, rail & fore-end the way I want it).
I'll still be modifying the Vz.58 anyway, but I guess any plan to bring it to Echo is shot now (pun intended). ;-) No big deal.

Likely be into another kick at the CQB can sometime after the new year myself.

Cheers.

Dinner at McD's tonight so that I can use this wireless signal. All is good and ready for tomorrow. Remember to bring a sandwich tomorrow and lots and lots of snacks. We don't have time to spend at lunch (and drive into town). We are all eating lunch at the Echo Range!

See you all at 0800 to 0830 across from the Base Fire Hall.

Cheers,
Barney

Well . As usual Barney I feel we all owe you a big thankyou for all your effort in passing on your knowledge and for the community building that you do. The small class was perfect for our new shooter who attended as she got a lot of one on one instruction with lots of shooting. We all had a lot of laughs as well ....please don't make a video of the yoga workout you showed us. It was helpful but you were enjoying it a little too much ...lol
Thanks as well for the use of your lower and for the new hammer spring hopefully that will make my rifle go bang all the time again.
At one point today I wished I wished it had a bayonet attached and was closer to the target ....as I would have went for the air launched rifle attack method ..... You wont see method that in any training manual ...lol.
Cant wait till spring and get some more trigger time with you running the show .
Thanks again and I hope our plans for next year work out :d:d
