Season is open, I have 2 tags and live in an open zone..............deer wander through the yard 2 or 3 times each day. Please note I have not used the term "hunt"..........but a nice fresh backstrap roasted up medium rare with fresh spuds and onions, is kinda hard to turn down...............Got an ugly one spike horned fellow that should be eaten before he spreads his genes too far.
Might even take a pic or 2 if y'all want but it ain't gonna be no trophy...........
The big question is though, which cartridge should I use? Bear in mind we are likely talking less than 50 mtrs and most likely go for the head shot, or spine at the base of the skull. I now have several sighted in and ready to go........204, 6.5X55, 300 WSM, 7mm RUM, .470 NE, 350 RM, 375 H&H and 257 Bee..........plus likely more if I looked........7-08, 308, anyway I'm thinking maybe the 6.5...........I have 5 243s and can't say if any are sighted in.......shame on me, I know they'd be perfect. Just bedded the hornet or it would be excellent as well.........before you flame me for using a hornet, remember I live with a few neighbors around and I don't need to take the shot unless 100% guaranteed success..........there's always tomorrow or Sunday or Monday.............. I could likely arrow one as well but I'm probably out of practice and might blow the shot or pull my infamous "palm the bow" trick that I do when excited or not concentrating enough.

Isn't beastiality illegal? I think the MNR and your wife would take exception to you 'BANGING' a deer. Just sayin z awl

Now if you want to shoot a deer point blank I'd say the 6.5x55 with a Hornady SST in the back of the ear would suffice.....470 Nitro Express otherwise.

The .257 weatherby would make short work of that ugly unicorn. Banging it though; that should remain in the "don't ask, don't tell" category.

The 257 Bee would most certainly work and would in all likelihood completely remove all above the neck........little destructive for a 30-50 mtr shot, methinks...............I'm actually leaning toward the 204...........I'm thinking a devastating head shot cartridge. I'm also seriously thinking about letting #2 son have a poke at one instead. He's got a nice little Mod 7 in 260 Rem...........decisions, decisions, decisions.......................

NM999.........shot a whitetail last fall with that one and have no more loads worked up or sighted in for it............

So Dogleg.............what are you saying? That you don't want any pics of that................

OK all you guys......let's get something straight here.......what I do with my deer is my business, and I've already checked and my wife doesn't mind if I bang a deer in the yard. The season is open, I have a tag and I'm gonna get mine..........for those who want I can PM photos too.........:adult::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:Laugh2Laugh2

You're a sick bunch of bastards, aren't ya................

It would make cutting the head off easier. I don't want pictures of the, err "incident", and definitely not interested in "bone-in weight". Best to keep some things vague.

Wouldn't a 40 Gr bullet in the 204 be one choice...unlikely :to ricochet, at the intended range "should be" pretty deadly and accurate. Certainly appreciate your distinction between hunting and shooting

Yep AP, just like going out to the garden and digging a hill of spuds for dinner............It ain't hunting but it does put meat on the table...........right beside them fresh spuds............

Seen as yer makin it sound like such a walk in the park OP, my vote goes to using a spear LOL
But that 6.5 would do the trick should you not like the spear idea.
