Interesting article for sure. Seems Fireclean may not be magical at all.

"Pure Vegetable, and Pure Canola. I stood there in the aisle for quite some time, trying to figure out which one to buy. Sensing my puzzlement, a helpful lady asked me if I needed assistance deciding which oil was right for whatever it was I wanted to cook. Suddenly, I understood what it must be like for girls who visit gun stores."

So, Crisco isn't just for the bedroom, but also for the gun room. Great, information I can use right away!

That article is suspect, especially on the chart. Not sure if I would trust Vurrvapenblog especially considering some of his more obvious articles that we're basically deliberate product bashing.

Someone already uploaded a YouTube video where he put drops of Fireclean into a cup of Crisco oil..it didn't mix.

However..I think we all know that Fireclean is made up of some sort of vegetable oil blend since it's biodegradable. However..maybe its further processed?

Larry Vickers has come out calling the claim bull####. I'd consider him pretty damn credible but since he is pretty much a spokesman for them it's debateable.

This is crazy if it is in fact mostly vegetable oil but , to be honest, not really surprising. When it comes to lube for firearms it seems the ingredients are pre manufactured (ie. Oil, grease, atf, etc) and then they try to add their own distinguishable characteristics to make claims better than the next. I've heard it said before, "there are no special refineries for gun lubes/greases".

We have to be careful with online reviews these days more than most, seems the industry has caught up to the fact that we're listening to youtube and forum experts and a lot of them are paid by manufacturers.
Not saying everything is BS, just saying use your critical thinking, ive been bit a few times by some AMAZING reviews by some very "credible" experts on some really crap sh!t guns

It may be suitable for people who are shooting very often. I can tell you it does dry/gum up.

I've had froglube dry & gum up a rifle so bad it stopped functioning.
Doesn't make much sense to me, apparently a thin layer remains slick, too thick and it'll dry & gum up.

the only questions people should be asking is, does it work.

Agreed, **but at 18.00 CDN for 4 oz. Is it worth it for off the shelf crisco canola oil?

If it is indeed just canola oil, that is a gimmick ripoff.
Going to look into it further for my own sake. Will see if it mixes with canola oil, vs the other crisco soy based oil.

That's because it is reacting to residual oils still on your gun. Even a spec of other oils or grease does this after a while. You really have to detail strip and completely degrease it and use several cycles of frog luge before it works properly and stay using frog lube after. The slightest clp say from break free gets in there and it defeats the purpose. This I'm convinced is 99% of the problem. Even if you get say some other oil that gets in there from say your magazine it reacts badly.

The gun will start to stink and you will get an orange tinge. When this happens you have a presence of an oxidant moisture in your gun. Any petroleum based product left in your gun will will be used up fighting that residual product.

So in short really degrease your gun and add a lot of frog luge at 30 to 90 day intervals if not using it till there is no problem anymore. And then you are G2G.

Or just use motor oil and forget about the rituals some of these other products involve.
