Hi guys,

I took my M305 to the range the other day and had a bit of an issue with it after shooting about 40 rounds through it.
The Bolt had come free of the Op Rod.
I'm wondering if this could be possibly because the slot in the op rod for the nub on the bolt to fit in could be too big?
I was also using very cheap 7.62 surplus ammo from marstar which I won't be using again (left a crazy amount of residue in the receiver and barrel and on the bolt. Could the cause of this also be because of the surplus ammo?
It was an easy fix, but I am just looking for the cause so I could prevent this from happening again.

Thanks
Ben

Hi Saltbait

Mine has been fine when shooting, about 80 rounds now, but twice after cleaning and greasing it happened while testing the action and trying to work-in a new rifle. It hasn't occurred again since I hammered over the ring that guides the oprod. I noticed my oprod was not contacting the gas piston center to center.

Look under the tips sticky as they cover a lot of this stuff that fixes issues I didn't even know about.

Fairly sure that it happened while firing...I noticed it while chambering a round before my next group.

Thanks
Ben

A little ambiguous. You noticed it had come out before touching the op rod/charging handle?

Mine also has this problem , I just purchased from a fellow member and when I opened the box I did the test after assembly as it was in a troy stock and the bolt fell out.
I reassembled thinking I improperly handled the action ,I put about 3 rnds through it and it didn't cycle I looked and the bolt was out of the op rod again. I looked at the op rod and where the bolt roller goes looks worn. Any info would be great

Went through the sticky's never found it If its there its not easy to find ,looked threw the tip and faq's. Which sticky is this info in? what makes bolt fall out and how do I correct it?

page 14 of this I finally found a similar experience. "Bolt fell out at the range"

Oprod guide being loose will cause this as the oprod will tilt with the force of the action. Make sure it is not loose and straight in line with gas system. Very common on chew rifles. If not taken care of will not only be unsafe but can and will destroy tab on oprod and bolt bearing. Some are loose and rock back side to side and seen the tight and off to one side not lining up with gas system. Torques the oprod and causes it to pop out of track. I have run into this on my last two noricos and my Springfield and also on my socom18. I may be wrong, but that is the first place I would look. All covered in the stickies

the op rod doesn't seem loose compaired to my new m305(with blackfeather &spring) they feel the same, I will check the op rod for straightness.

The op rod moved a little bit when I wiggled it up n down not much, but a lil . The op rod guide if I grab it and wiggle real hard I can just barely feel some play there, I took it all apart lined it up dimpled the op rod guide and locktite it. I found the specs for the op rod guide on m14forum and measured mine , the tab on the op rod was worn pretty bad I welded it up and filed it to specs it works now. Thanks.
