Hello everyone,
I want to start a new project and build my first tactical precision rifle. Of course, I want quality but I'm not ready to pay for a 6000$ PGW or McMillan... I want to stay in 308, first of all because of its proven ballistic, its easy availability and its cheap cost of reload.
The Tikka-line always interrested me because of its quality of build, its out-of-the-box sub-moa accuracy, its smooth action and they're detachable magazine. So, in the last week I found a beautiful T3 CTR (Compact tactical rifle) in 308, at a fair price.
I almost bought it right-away, mostly because of it's 10-rd Sako detachable mag, its fair price, and of course its accuracy. However, I'm not really sure about it's barrel contour. It is listed as a semi-heavy barrel. Because I am mostly going to do target shooting, everybody knows that having a heavy barrel is a must. A light contour barrel, which can be good for saving weight on hunting games, will heat really fast during repetitive shooting, which will have a major influence on ballistic, so on accuracy.
Is this "semi-heavy" barrel doing the job for long day at the range, shooting 20, 30, 50 rounds a day? Has anyone here ever tried it out, and could give me some clues about this rifle?
I was planning to mount a little Vortex Viper PST 6-24x on it. I will mostly do target shooting, 50% benchrest and 50% prone position. I plan shooting it from 100 yards to 500 yards, or more if I could ever find a spot.
Thanks a lot!
