Maybe I'll Bang a Deer Today..........Finally, Photo Up

So I just happened to have 50 new 350 RM cases and 20, 140 gn JHP pistol bullets left over in a box and a couple pounds of Unique. So I ran 20 cases up in the die to square up the mouths, chamfered them stuck 20 CCI 300 large pistol primers in and then gave them 15 gns of Unique........should run them out about 1700 fps. Next I'll see if they even hit on the paper, or rather stay on the paper, maybe even something resembling a group would be nice.............I just really want to kill something with my Model 7 MS 350 RM...........

THIS ONE....................

In my humble opinion trapoholic, "scatterguns" as you so quaintly refer to them, are designed solely for the purpose of terminating winged creatures, when in flight...........

Eh, everybodies different was just a suggestion. That 350RM is a purty lookin rig for a bolt action I ain't gonna lie... 140 grain ball pretty short bullet in that big bore to stabilize in't it? Kinda makes ya think it'd tumble, but you know better'n I do so I as well as everybody else am lookin forward to pictures of the deer you shoot!

What you do ,hunt on noahs ark.just kidding youve got quite a collection.one that a lot including myself envys.i still think 375

Shooting deer around here can be akin to hunting the arc, somedays. I would bang one with the 375, but I'm scared of "through and throughs" as there are neighbors around as well as trucks and buildings etc, and one cannot guarantee where an exiting bullet may go, depending on what it hits in the deer and at what angle. Therefore I will NOT be using my full house 350 RM loads nor my 375, nor my .470 NE........as much as I'd love to it just ain't safe. Nope it's the 204 or pistol bullets in the 350 so far, I may come up with another great idea tomorrow........maybe my Miroku 92 in 44 RM with 200 XTP HP loaded to the nuts, also should not exit on a body shot..........I may just sight in my hornet tomorrow as well.............so many options, so little time..........could mount a scope back on my 22-250 that already has loads developed for it and do a quick sight in with it. I would have more confidence in it on a body shot with it's 55 gn bullet than the 204 with it's 32 gn bullet. ............then there's the 22-284 and the 234 Douglas and 5 different 243s, plus several 25-20s, 32-20s, 25-35s..........anyway y'all get the idea, too many guns and not enough tags to try them all............

No need for all that as I have a walk in cooler and proper cutting table in an out building built especially for this kind of work...........

Yikes... you didn't retire to a B.C pig farm did you?

OK, I have just thought about a change of direction in rifles for this up coming shooting of a deer...................I thought, now what if all I'm offered is a body shot, I don't trust the 204 there. It may work just fine but then again it may not............so I was just down rooting about in my vault and thought........ What about a 140 JHP pistol bullet from my 700 MS 350 RM at about 1500 fps. It should open up exceptionally well and I doubt it would exit, on a shot inside 50 mtrs. Shouldn't make a great ugly mess inside but should kill just fine on close range shot and if a head shot still presents it should be perfectly functional for that as well.
What do y'all think about the 350 RM using 140 JHP pistol bullets, should I be going faster, slower.........what say you who have used this sort of set up on game. I can run them anywhere from about 1200 fps to well over 3000 fps, but I doubt they'd stand for that. I was thinking more in the 1500-2000 fps range. Don't want blood jelly inside but I don't want a pass through either.

Here is the classic scenario of a "gear-head" inventing a reason to be a "gear-head..."

Shooting deer around here can be akin to hunting the arc, somedays...

I think Noah would already have meat hanging from the mast...

How many cubits will you be shooting at?

P.S - I have shot the Hornady 180 grain SSP bullet for many years at reduced velocities from .358, .35 W and .350 RM... it is a dandy lightweight thumper... have used Unique and Trail boss... settled on Trail boss when I ran out of Unique.

Yup - I'm up for another run at this thread. What else is the walkin cooler used for? I think this thread needs more plunked deer pics rather than arsenal selections Senior Cervios Petardo!

Deer are not co-operating this week...........maybe tomorrow morning. Just about had a black bear this evening but by the time I got #2 son rigged up he was out of the plum tree and gone.............Walk in cooler and cutting area is just that, nothing else...........

Well, no co-operation this A.M. either..........Not sure what the deal is, but they'll be back. Maybe they have a weekly circuit and only hit my lawns on the weekends......who knows !!!!! I am not a WT expert by any stretch, but one thing I do know is they'll be back, just can't say when......
And Angus is right, when one has shot hundreds of head of big game as I have, the prospect of harvesting a little WT just doesn't hold any great excitement for me, so the fun is in trying something new. Like a pistol bullet from the 350, or the 204, or maybe the hornet...........Were it legal I'd be tempted to try a handgun, but of course it's not, so I'd never do anything like that.......:sok2
Anyway I'll keep y'all posted and it will happen one of these days............The wife has a license as well so there's another couple deer If I want..........we'll see how it goes, I may be able to do some more and different terminal ballistic testing...........if the deer co-operate somewhat.

Last week my wife told me to hurry up and get a deer, freezer's empty, all you do is sit on the lounger she said. Next evening had a 4x2 down.

Why don't you use an old 38 or 44WCF?

For Whitetails around the yard I suggest sitting in a lawnchair away from your residence in the evening with your beverage of choice. Every once in a while look directly behind yourself, this is where the deer will be, likely at very close range. They always come from the direction you aren't watching.

we have the same thing at dads place ,,he has a flock of turkeys that come to his back yard to pick acorns and go threw his garden .Thy come very single day but the day the season opens and I am waiting for them ,,lol Dad sits in his chair with a coffee every morning watching about 20 birds pick there way threw his yard .last night I pull in to unload the 4wheeler and there thy are sitting up in the big oak tree, that's the only time I get to see them ,its like thy know when I am coming over and thy are safe ,,Dutch

Mares legs maybe?

Mine told me to get a bull Moose too... but that is a tall order when the entire time we are hunting the daytime highs are to be in the mid-20's Celsius and it never gets cooler than 12 C at night... I am expecting very little movement and just about no calling... we leave on Sunday.

Whitetails are like flies around here.

Bucks might be scarce where C-FBMI is because guys might have 4 or 5 wives telling them to fill the freezer.
