My father in law went hunting this morning and managed to get a nice buck. Once he got back to the road the old rifle fell in half. he is lucky it held while he was shooting. It is a 80's Rem 700 in 7mag. It is a shame as we just finished putting an new scope on it for his birthday and now this happens. So now we need to re-stock his rifle.

What version of bottom metal is that? If I can get a BDL stock can I just get a BDL floorplate and use that on it instead? Are there any composite stocks made that have no floorplate like in the pics?

Thanks,

J.

He wants a synthetic stock. I'm just not sure how to deal with that style bottom metal, I don't think they make them like that anymore.

Ok so I just figured out that is called a blind magazine lol. So ADL is what I need right?

They're not cheap, and hard to find, but I really like the Magpul Hunter 700 stocks. I find it really improves the ergonomics and makes it point naturally. According to my research on blind magazine versions:

The new Magpul Hunter 700 Stock is an easy way for hunters to improve the ergonomics and function of their Remington Model 700. Made of polymer with an aluminum bedding block, the Hunter 700 system accepts barreled Remington 700 short actions, offering simple drop-in installation. Comb height and length of pull are adjustable, and the system works with Magpul's new Bolt Action Magazine Well and PMag 5 AC five-round magazine to turn a rifle with a blind magazine into one with a detachable box magazine.

Check the EE, I bought an older adl syn for under 100 bucks a while ago, might find a wood one too or put a WTB ad up. Can check Gravel Agency as well

She'd be pretty fancy with a new metal coating and stock.

Pretty sure that the OP mentioned that the rifle is a 7 mag, which should be a long action....??

Isnt there a couple in the EE parts section right now for sale?
the name 240Gord rings a bell.
Shouldnt be to hard or overly expensive to get that sorted out.
As for the composite question I have no answer, but suffice to say now is the time to clean up the trigger group while the quest for a new stock is
in the works.
Good Taste in Scope too btw.
Tight Groups,

Check out Robertson Composites hunting rifle stocks. You can opt for either the ADL or BDL style, although I believe that a blind magazine is a mistake if you have a choice, but unless you want a detachable magazine, the factory hinged floorplate is probably the most affordable and lightest option. If you decide on a detachable magazine, the Remington version pales in comparison to the military style magazine systems, which are expensive.

I would buy a B&C stock from Prophet River. Any LA you fancy. You will then have to find BDL style bottom metal, which shouldn't be overly hard. I bet some gunsmith would have it laying around from customers that convert to a detach mag. Then he will get his synthetic stock and a floorplate.

If you go that route let me know. I think my dad needs a ADL trigger guard.

What happened to it? Looks like it was laid on the ground and then run over by a wheeler. Something my cousin did to his, it looked almost identical for damage.

30 years of hunting on the BC coastline. The wood looks almost rotten in the center of the wrist, it failed around the rear action screw and just let go. The new scope is ok so that's a plus lol.

If cost is a concern, you could likely get an SPS tupperware take-off for nothing, or next to nothing. They're all over the place as people parted out a ton of SPSs for the actions or upgraded. That would leave you looking for BDL bottom metal, but isn't real hard to find either. An ad in the EE would find both in a hurry.

A better and much more expensive path would be ordering up a new McMillan with ADL inlet. Pick your style, LOP, pad, colour and you'll be shooting it a year from now for about the price of a new rifle.
