My Top 4, What Are Yours?

Kind of a "joke" answer but... I love these guns :) (Left to right across the back: P7M10, P7M13, P7M8, P7 PSP. In the middle/front is a newer P7M13).

Why? Shootability. I become about a 20% better shooter just by picking up one of these pistols over most other designs. Also, faster, more confident.

More favs... this is a 1975 HK P9S, a 1982 Steyr GB, and that same 1993 HK P7M10:

And... gotta throw in this OD GLOCK 19. One of my all-time favorite pistols:
OD1.jpg

Can I go shooting with you? Man that is a sweet collection.

Walther PPQ...accurate, the best trigger, great fit and finish, a wonderful gun;
Sig P226 X Five Allround...very accurate, low felt recoil, all steel heavy;
IWI Baby Eagle semi-compact...all steel, heavy for its size, good accuracy, finish has only average durability;
M&P 9 Apex trigger upgrades...nice trigger now, good fit and finish, okay accuracy.

The above is in order of preference, all 9mm. BTW, I'm a very mediocre shot, so to me "very accurate" is 5" group at 25 metres.

Walther PPQ (wish it had a 106mm barrel though)...most accurate in my hands.
1911 CCO in 9mm
HK P2000
G19 customized by Bowie Tactical Concepts.

I shoot them all about the same with just a tiny bit more accuracy with the 1911 and PPQ. If going to a course...I grab the P2000 without fail.

The answer varies from day to day for me. What I'd be most likely to take to the range would be...

S&W K38 Target Masterpiece
STI Trojan in .45acp
Browning Buck Mark
Browning Hi-Power in 9mm

The top 4 pistols that I use are displayed below. I like to find out what everyone else considers to be there best top 4. I use all 4 on a regular basis when shooting. They are all in .40S&W which is my preferred calibre. Even though all 4 are damn accurate, I'll rate them in order of preference.

1 - Glock 35 - What can I say, I'm a Glock nut. As a result, this is my number 1 shooter. Extremely accurate and a fun gun to shoot, strip down to nothing, clean then put it back together and shoot. I've got to hand it to Gaston. He got it right with the Glock
2 - S&W M&P40L - This Performance Centre CORE pistol is fantastic. It's on par with the Glock. With it's adjustable trigger stop and factory tuned sear, you can't beat this for accuracy. Unfortunately, being the Glock fan that I am, I placed this at the number 2 position.
3 - Sig P320 - What can I say, this is another gem of a pistol. You can't beat the accuracy and quality of any SIG pistol and this is no exception.
4 - Springfield XDm-40 with the 5.25 matched grade barrel is one terrific pistol. The only drawback for me is the grip safety. Otherwise then that this is an extremely accurate pistol. If it wasn't for the grip safety, it would have been my number 2 pistol.

Well now let's hear from other CGNers as to what their top 4 are and why….

Where is the 1911 and the beretta 92fs?

Hmpppfff.

As the self-proclaimed manager of the pistol section of the CGN, I decree to all the foolish firearm forum folk that without pictures, your opinion is null and void. Gun (not goat, you illiterate ignorattii) #### is strongly recommended!!!

Carry on. :)

I must say that I'm more than just mildly perturbed at the preponderance of soul-less polymer people poppers on this favorites list, perhaps because I view those plastic pretenders as a tool only, and not something to be viewed as an heirloom, but merely a projectile dispenser, often-times of the paltry, puny and less than adequate "Euro-pellet" Parabellum cartridge. Disgustingly soul-less, lacking in character and fit only for the basest among us...

To that end, a truly worthy list, something that you can pass to your heirs in the light of day, not in a darkened back office, conducting the transfer by proxy due to the shame of your less than adequate "favorites" list. Behold!!!

#1 - a 1911 from any of the top names in assemblage, certainly no Norincos here or anything cobbled up in a garage in the Philipines, it must be steel-framed, with a 5" barrel and in the .45 Automatic Colt Pistol caliber as God and John Moses Browning intended;

#2 - an N-frame Smith and Wesson, anywhere from 3.5" (if an early 27 or Registered Magnum) to 8 3/8", a 4" or 5" .44 Special or Magnum is to be preferred, but fill your boots, taking pride in knowing that you have the ability to deliver a substantial pistol-whipping should you run out of ammo...

#3 - a large-bore Ruger single action - pick your caliber and barrel length and rest assured that you possess a handgun that has much in common with a hockey puck as it relates to being free from breakage...

#4 - a Colt Woodman, any vintage, Sport Model or Match Target - my all-time favorite is the 4.5" Sport Model, 1st or 2nd Series or a Second Series Match Target...

Classics every one and worthy of the title favorite. Look on in envy...

I think I am of the same mindset as you. I don't own a polymer gun. Trying to make a list is not simple for me, but I do have a few that I shoot the most, even though they may not be my very favorites....

Of my Colts, I have a Python out of the custom shop. Sublime. Also a 1954 Challenger (Woodsman) that is pure plinking joy, 1956 Scout (SA), Anaconda.

Of my S&W...a K38 (Model 14-3), K22, Model 66 K frame, Model 27-2, 29-2, 629 unfluted with silhouette sight, Model 19-3, Model 686 no dash 8 3/8" bbl, oh, and the Model 57 in .41 Magnum is just a #####in' N frame to shoot......

Rugers.... a Single Six Buntline, a real flat top, and a GP100 that is a club, but still I love it.

Sigs....I shoot a P226 E2 Elite in 9mm the most (because it's stupidly comfortable and accurate, and cheap to shoot), then my P220 Equinox, P226 SS Elite in .40, P220 MSE.....

No 1911s on my list, because I can't shoot them worth a damn even though I appreciate them. There is no way I could have a list of 4. Impossible.

Edit: And how could I forget my 1926 Colt Police Positive in .38 S&W?? Or 1954 Colt Official Police .22 LR....Colt Trooper Mk. III.....

Yeah, way too many classy shooting irons out there to ever have a Glock or S&W M&P on the list. I'm a snobbish pistol ####, and won't apologize.

In the winter, when snow is on the ground, I use wheel guns only saves loosing brass. My favorite wheel guns are Freedom Arms .454, S&W 625 and 610, Ruger Blackhawk you asked for 4.
In the summer I will shoot a semi and my 1911s are the best, next is the P series Rugers, and of course the revolvers.

My favorite caliber is .45 Colt, .45ACP, .38/.357 Mag and of course .22LR. You asked for 4 but I also like .40S&W and 9mm.

I have a polymer Glock that sits in the gun vault just to say I have one and so I can comment on what I think of Glock=Perfection.
