Kind of a "joke" answer but... I love these guns(Left to right across the back: P7M10, P7M13, P7M8, P7 PSP. In the middle/front is a newer P7M13).
Why? Shootability. I become about a 20% better shooter just by picking up one of these pistols over most other designs. Also, faster, more confident.

More favs... this is a 1975 HK P9S, a 1982 Steyr GB, and that same 1993 HK P7M10:

Where is the 1911 and the beretta 92fs?The top 4 pistols that I use are displayed below. I like to find out what everyone else considers to be there best top 4. I use all 4 on a regular basis when shooting. They are all in .40S&W which is my preferred calibre. Even though all 4 are damn accurate, I'll rate them in order of preference.
1 - Glock 35 - What can I say, I'm a Glock nut. As a result, this is my number 1 shooter. Extremely accurate and a fun gun to shoot, strip down to nothing, clean then put it back together and shoot. I've got to hand it to Gaston. He got it right with the Glock
2 - S&W M&P40L - This Performance Centre CORE pistol is fantastic. It's on par with the Glock. With it's adjustable trigger stop and factory tuned sear, you can't beat this for accuracy. Unfortunately, being the Glock fan that I am, I placed this at the number 2 position.
3 - Sig P320 - What can I say, this is another gem of a pistol. You can't beat the accuracy and quality of any SIG pistol and this is no exception.
4 - Springfield XDm-40 with the 5.25 matched grade barrel is one terrific pistol. The only drawback for me is the grip safety. Otherwise then that this is an extremely accurate pistol. If it wasn't for the grip safety, it would have been my number 2 pistol.
Well now let's hear from other CGNers as to what their top 4 are and why….

I must say that I'm more than just mildly perturbed at the preponderance of soul-less polymer people poppers on this favorites list, perhaps because I view those plastic pretenders as a tool only, and not something to be viewed as an heirloom, but merely a projectile dispenser, often-times of the paltry, puny and less than adequate "Euro-pellet" Parabellum cartridge. Disgustingly soul-less, lacking in character and fit only for the basest among us...
To that end, a truly worthy list, something that you can pass to your heirs in the light of day, not in a darkened back office, conducting the transfer by proxy due to the shame of your less than adequate "favorites" list. Behold!!!
#1 - a 1911 from any of the top names in assemblage, certainly no Norincos here or anything cobbled up in a garage in the Philipines, it must be steel-framed, with a 5" barrel and in the .45 Automatic Colt Pistol caliber as God and John Moses Browning intended;
#2 - an N-frame Smith and Wesson, anywhere from 3.5" (if an early 27 or Registered Magnum) to 8 3/8", a 4" or 5" .44 Special or Magnum is to be preferred, but fill your boots, taking pride in knowing that you have the ability to deliver a substantial pistol-whipping should you run out of ammo...
#3 - a large-bore Ruger single action - pick your caliber and barrel length and rest assured that you possess a handgun that has much in common with a hockey puck as it relates to being free from breakage...
#4 - a Colt Woodman, any vintage, Sport Model or Match Target - my all-time favorite is the 4.5" Sport Model, 1st or 2nd Series or a Second Series Match Target...
Classics every one and worthy of the title favorite. Look on in envy...
