Tavor failure

How long is that mag? Also did anyone else receive a 45 round capacity mag with their Tavor? Mine came with the standard 30 round mag (pinned of course) which is approximately the same length as my 30 round pmags, but slightly longer than a USGI 30 mag.

My apologies for going off topic.

I also received a 30 round mag with mine too. (It was pinned to 4 so I threw that ####er away)

I wonder if the older Tavor generations came with a 45 round mag?

I've had my rifle for a few years, so I don't think that's the case, generation-wise, but I could be wrong. I looked at my original 30 round mag today, and it is stamped "5. 56 mm x 45" on the left side of the body though, instead of the more common 5.56x45mm marking.

no panic everyone ill go take a picture! havent taken a look at that thing since I unpacked the rifle.
yah its not 45 but its definitely longer than 30, honestly its been in the spare parts bin since i bought the tavor.

Looking at the pic, looks to me like about 5 rounds extra length... so my guess is its a 35 round. Which might have been done to satisfy former Galil operators?

40 and 45 round mags are a hecklot longer than that.

Israeli Galil's were kinda funny because they were issued with 35 round mags but the logic was the enemies of Israel were/are running 30 round AK mags so 5 extra shots for a slight edge in combat. Yep, you have a 35/5 there!

I'm curious to find out how this goes since I know I'm buying one in the future. You have to remember the TAR-21 is design to be used with MIL-SPEC ammo. NOT SURE IF THAT APPLIES TO CIVVY MODELS SO CHECK THE MANUAL FIRST!!!!

I fired these in Colombia. Are those 35 round mags? We only loaded 20.

I do believe so! It's a bit hard to tell sometimes but they do seem too long to hold just 30. Not sure what the Columbian Armed Services makes or what they issue or who supplies them today BUT the Galil is supplied with 35's when shipped out for use.

Which reminds me! The AK-74 magazine is really funny. It's 8 inches long but holds only 30. The STANAG compatible 4179 holds 30 rounds but is 6.25 inches long. Base diameter of 9.58mm for the 5.56 case and 10 mm base diameter for the 5.45 case. Not anywhere near enough to justify almost 2 more inches.

Even AKM/AK47 mags seem very long. This rifle was a Nicaraguan national police issue.

That particular one was intended by Mikhail Kalashnikov to be used with the RPK. It isn't issued (normally) with the AK. The capacity is 40 since it goes past the rear edge of the top handguard (cover the gas tube) whereas the regular 30 ends about middle of the rear sights. Very nice!

Thanks, I didn't know this and wondered why these mags looked longer than the normal 30 round AK mags that the Nicaraguan Army regulars carried.
