Yesterday was an All day event... 450kms total traveled
Buddy called up the day before and suggested we heard over Boston Bar to Merritt and see what we could find. (in the way of deer and grouse).

We have scouted this area in the past and driven it may times.
We didnt see many of anything as we got to BB it was already light , but the adventure was just begining.

We checked out a few spots, trying to figure out how fresh the deer tracks where or whether they are buck or doe tracks etc...
Second walkabout buddies Cooey 840 malfunctioned... wouldnt breakopen ,but I still have rifle and shotgun and now he has a rifle and two tags, I just have a Mule tag and it is four points or better.

Long story short we covered three differant game regions that day and the shooting didnt start till about 3:30 when we spotted three Spruce grouse. I jumped out and potted first one on the ground, second flew to the left and dropped it.
Third flew right at me and to the left and I couldnt get the shot off.

Bit later we spotted four running across the road to gravel up, again I dusted the first on the hard then the next two flushed and they dropped.
Most of the shots where from 30 yrds and down to twenty-five when i went to recover the birds.

Ended the day with 2 Spruce, 3 Blues and 2 Ruffed.. this was a spectacular day as we jumped those grouse and seen a small blackie and found some Ravens and a Turkey Vulture on deer carcass a 2pointer, not much left of it either.

Gun used is a Remington 1100 20 gauge in 2-3/4'', Modified choke, 28'' barrel shooting Gun Show purchased Federal Game Load Number 6's.
Best Combo ever.

Might post a pic, might not..being a Union Thug and all ...

I saw a lot of birds of the FSRs between Boston and Merritt earlier.

There are some really nice bucks in the area too! And a decent grizzly way up top.

Sounds like a good day!

Sounds like a good day out a'wanderin'.

I am sorta surprised to see the number of blue grouse around here. I don't recall anything other than ruffies when I was growing up.

Starting to see some Chukar about too, but most of them have been in places too civilized to have a go at them.

Cheers
Trev

Must off been quite a challenge fer yew yewn-yunn thugs to ride the
Hogg while pack'in ker-pows?

Great to see a feller CGN'r out'n'about enjoying the pleasantries of this fine province.........

Covered a lot of country, did some hunting and picked off a few, a great day Rob

I just finished eating the smaller Spruce Grouse and they where fantaaaassstic (in his best Whim Vanderzalm voice).
They never tasted so good, guess they had been those red berries and the lil green leaves from said bushes.
Tender too, but is likely because I had them marinating overnight in a ginger garlic marinade.
Not to mention having some bacon draped over them as well.
Gotta work the next eight days now before I can get out again.
Best Regards and Safe Trip Home nexgen !!!
Looky, the trick to shooting from a Hawg is leave the biotch at home and take the Element !
