Have a 32" 1:9 stainless .257" Krieger, what would you do with it?

Have this barrel here and trying to decide what to do with it. I mountain hunt so don't need a heavy bench rifle, and have misgivings with turning something this long down to a skinny little whip, or cutting it shorter for that matter. But I love quarter bores and Kriegers, also loathe to give it up.

Considering,

-32" .257 Weatherby
-32" .25 WSM (not WSSM)
-28" or so .257 Roberts AI
-30" or so .25-06 AI
-.25-284, 28"ish

All would be on a Model 70, of course.
 
Bite the bullet, cut it off at 25" or 26", and chamber it for .257 Wby. If you insist on keeping it long, you might want to consider screwing it into a Ruger No. 1 action. You could of course, leave it at 32", then starting chopping it down an inch at a time until it feels right.
 
I was just faced with a similar choice although with not as many options.
I had a 98 Mauser with a very tired 25-06 barrel and a local gunsmith / gun builder offered me a super deal on an unfired Douglas Premium barrel so by virtue of already having a Roberts and also a 257 AI, I went for keeping the rifle in 25-06.
So now I have a ready to test drive 25-06 when I'm up to the task.
Your list of choices are very interesting so I guess it ends up being whichever appeals to you the most for your needs...

Likely it and the one I keep returning to. Brass and dies off the shelf, and reamers available is nice.

I do have a No.1 magnum extractor I'm not using...
 
Roy's personal favorite, the .257 Weatherby is far and away the top choice. This cartridge has intrigued me for for many years, 44 to be exact, but has managed to elude me thus far, a short coming that I fully intend to address. Anyway, that's my vote anyway.
 
Yep, put 'er on a #1 and you'll think you're shooting a 24" bolt gun..........I had a 7mm-300 Wby with a 28" barrel on a #1 and it was shorter than my long action 24" barreled 700s. I had another thought Angus..........25 Nosler, or go to a 25 Ruger and use 300 WM brass.......more efficient than the STW and likely better external ballistics and you could load them with 25 WSSM dies, and full body size with a 375 Ruger sizer, when necessary.
 
No question, leave it at that length, chamber in .257Wby, turn down to a reasonable taper and screw it onto a #1 or an 1885...or maybe send it to hoyt and have it mounted on an H&R single? :)

(Not meant as a shot or slight at either the guns or hoyt...I'm a fan of both!)

.257 Weatherby. Set it up for 32", then snip off an inch at a time and chronograph it as you go. Good science project.

In a world with dozens of cartridges that are all more or less the same the .257 'Bee stands out. If there's an easier, more civilized way of making 1/4 mile deer sized critters into entrees I don't know what it is.
