Has anyone ran into the issue with a SIG P226R slide not locking back after last round?

I have to manually pull it back, lock it and then insert the next magazine. Doesn't happen all the time but seems to becoming more frequent.

Have you had the gun long?
Check your thumb position,a thumb high hold may have your thumb hitting the slide release.

Are you by any chance touching the slide release while shooting ?

Might be a grip issue, this is what I diagnosed to my friend that had the same problem this summer: his left thumb was pushing against the slide release and wouldnt lock back on last round.

Try shooting one handed, if it still happens it might be a mag issue.
In most cases when you shoot thumbs forward its caused by slightly touching the slide release.
Took me a while to get used to and every now and then I still touch the slide release.

Manually pull the slide back on an empty mag, making sure you're not touching the slide release. If it locks back by itself, it's not a magazine issue.

It could still be a mechanical issue with the slide not travelling far enough back for the lever to engage, but that's probably not the case. Watch your thumb placement.

It's almost certainly a magazine issue. Keep track of your mags and you will probably recognise a pattern. Usually it's the lips at the top of the mag that become deformed which changes where the platform sits which causes issues with your slide lock.

That's a pretty bold statement. How can you state with any certainty that it's a mag issue with such little information?

Because I have a lot of experience working with P226's. It's a fairly common problem. They are great guns but like all things mechanical they can have their subtle nuances. All I'm saying is to mark the mags and see if a pattern develops

If his feed lips were deformed, intermittent slide lock would be the least of his issues. I agree that the slide lock issue is common (to shooters new to the SIG P-series) but thumbing the slide release is far more likely to be the source of the problem than deformed feed lips.

what kind of ammo are you using? Could be lighter loads? When i was working up a load for my 226, I found that if the charge was too light it would be enough to cycle and strip the rounds but not enough to lock the slide back on the last round..

As soon as I put the new E2 grips on mine, my thumb was causing the slide not to lock open. I went back to the original grips and I couldn't touch the slide lock with my thumb if I tried. This is happening to 2 other friends that I shoot with as well when they went to the E2 grips. We have large hands. I should sell my E2s.... or keep them for when my kids get a little older.

From Sig's site:

Lock back issues can be due to a variety of reasons. I have listed a few for you to check*: Be sure the inside of the magazines are thoroughly cleaned of any grease or lubricant. Be sure the gun has been cleaned and has plenty of lubrication on the slide/frame rails, outside of barrel and the hammer/spring assy. Some guns benefit from a break-in period - give the gun a few hundred rounds to break in and work smoothly. Try different ammunition. If the lower powered ammo is used in a new gun, it may cause feeding, extraction and lock back issues until the springs are broken in. Do all the magazines have the same result? Check your hold to be sure your thumb is not contacting the slide catch lever. A weak hold (“limp wristing”) can result in cycle / lock-back issues Does the slide lock back manually with an empty mag inserted? If so, it is most likely due to one of the tips above. *NOTE: The slide will not lock back on the last round on the Classic .22LR pistols and Conversion Kits.
