poor dog probably thought he was being a real pal and doing you a favour - He likely thinks you are a pretty ungrateful bastard now...

That's a whole different thread there r338w............I haven't forgot to shoot a deer, nor have I shot one and forgot I did...........Like Gate said I think the bastards got the "Hunting Season Open" memo and they traipse about the yard whenever my truck is gone. Or maybe they're just smarter than me, which is gonna make this a lot harder than I first anticipated...........
 
My gate is open, the temp is dropping and the doe and fawn is now just the doe. Though I saw the fawn this morning. Baby is out and I hope she's looking for a sugar buck shortly. My neighbour trying to firewood his wet cedar is putting a damper on things in the early evening though. Oh well - city folk. Its a steep learning curve when you buy acres.

Well guys, I'm in the Yukon, so of course the deer and bears are everywhere in my yard and playing tag and are seen several times a day by the wife and #2 son. I am here picking up my last car in my collection, the Jag..........I'll be home early next week so they will all disappear the day before I get there.........
 
OK, so the wife says "what's that up by the donkeys, a wolf?" I take a quick look and then grab my 10X40 Zeiss binos, nope they're deer and there's 3 of them. One smallish buck and a doe with a fawn..........no wait 2 fawns. 4 deer all told. They are quietly feeding about 250 mtrs from my house, so I pop down to the vault and grab my 7mm RUM which I know is sighted in and shooting 3/4" groups with the load I have with 160 ABs. I lean on a post but the buck has fed behind a small bush and is right amongst the donkeys. He feeds a little higher up and then starts a walk in the wide open. I give a quick whistle and he stops..............BANG, flop.........he's done. The doe with the 2 fawns bolts up the pasture almost to the top fence about 350 mtrs and stops. My view is obscured by a tree so I move over to the cherry tree where I have a clear view and give her one.......too far back, I think she stepped just as I shot. She lopes across the top of the pasture in obvious great distress, but disappears behind the tree line..........I really expected her to fold before she got there but she didn't.......we found her about 50 mtrs farther on dead.
It's been a long wait but then to get a double header is a first in NA for me............So I guess I BANGED 2 deer in less than a minute................



After skinning and gutting found that I took the top off the bucks heart, but was a good foot too far back on the doe, but it proved fatal regardless.

The best way to BANG a deer is get it just as it wakes up. You gotta have rubber boots on that are nice and roomy , you put the deers back legs down the front of your rubber boots so it can't get away and your set.
