Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 sale 43% off

Saskatoon Wholesale Sports has them in .308 Win only. Good guns but the stock needs a can of spray paint. The stock is the older hard plastic, not the new one with tactile grip panels.

Could you guys post pics of your repainted stocks? I've never done it before and I need some inspiration.

this of course is not one of the Vanguards but same deal.
i hated my M305 plastic stock in black, i gave it to my wife and told her i needed a winter western canada camo on it.
she went onto pintrest and this is what she did for me.

i love it!
couple cans of Kryon and a can of clear coat made it a totally different gun.

my dad picked up the same gun this spring (not on sale, haha!) and put it on a Boyd stock.
in case any of you are wondering what the gun looks like on some nice lumber.

Little info from the WBY FAQ section:

Why didn't my Vanguard rifle come with a factory shot target?
In an effort to contain costs and keep the Vanguard as affordable as possible, we discontinued the inclusion of a factory-shot target in each Vanguard box in July 2009. All Weatherby® Vanguard Series 2 rifles with a serial number prefix of “VB” are guaranteed to shoot a .99" or better 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition.

All other Weatherby Vanguard rifles with serial numbers beginning withV, VL, VS, or VX, are guaranteed to shoot a 1 ½” or better 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition. Together, the Weatherby system (premium ammunition).

Why did the 223 Remington and 308 Winchester twist rates change for Vanguard rifles?
Weatherby has changed the twist rate of the Vanguard rifles in the 223 Remington and 308 Winchester chamberings to give the rifle the ability to accurately shoot longer, heavier bullets which are growing in popularity in these chamberings.

The 223 Remington was changed from a 1-14" twist rate to a 1-9" twist rate. The twist rate will be the new 1-9" rate from serial number VB084281.

The 308 Winchester was changed from a 1-12" twist rate to a 1-10" twist rate. The twist rate will be the new 1-10" rate from serial number VB046406.

Got my .30/06 today and it has the VB serial no. Took it out of the stock and cleaned up the action. Then I dropped the barrelled action into a weatherby vanguard s2 walnut sporter. Beautiful beast now. Action is a bit rough but will smoothen with use. Matte finish on metal is consistent and looks good. No tool marking that I can see. Stock is not your typical s2 stock and man, the pattern is uuugly ! If it was a Jacket, Don Cherry wouldn't wear it! Mine is full of white speck but it will be painted (maybe bed liner)and saved anyway. I can't wait to develop a load for this rifle now. Jeez, I wish I knew how to post pics lol.

Got my 30-06 me too today, the stock is worst than I have anticipated. Maybe I will replace it with a Boyds stock or a standard Weatherby Vanguard stock, the one with griptonite.

If anyone wishes to trade their two tone grey stock for a custom flame blaze
one oh a kind short action stock, send me a p.m.
I would do the trade.

Butyah know I can't do this all day..........

Too good a deal too pass. I was shooting today with a gentleman that works for WSS .They only have 223 left so he offered to put one aside for me ,which I will be picking up on Friday.

My Vanguard in 243win has a serial number that starts with a VB, and I shot back to back 5 shot moa groups today. It drives the 75gr v-max at 3390fps using Varget, so my load development is done. IMR4831 also shot well at lower velocities, but I opted for the extra 140fps that Varget is producing with equal accuracy.

My transformation is complete and I now absolutely love this rifle. What a bargain. $399 + $20 in paint and here she is. Just waiting on mounts so I can drop the Nikon 6-18x40 on her and head to the range. I sanded all the seams, primed, then painted with Krylon camo flat tan, then Krylon web effects. Really happy with the result.
