Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 sale 43% off

I have talley lightweights on my other one. I like Leupold standards but these rifles are already fairly heavy so I steer clear of steel.Having said that, I have a set of Remington integral z2 rings I bought for another project that never happened. May put them on this one. I would say, there is at least one wrong base in your pkg if I had to guess.

I think calling this stock flimsy garbage is a bit harsh. There are much worse out there. Mine came with spray foam in the butt, thick walls, and balances quite nicely with the gun. Doesn't feel flimsy at all to me (and for comaprison I also own a Vanguard Lazerguard). Worst case, you can get a Hogue on amazon for under $200 or a nice Boyds for about the same price. I dont consider this a $400 gun, I look at it as a $700-800 gun because thats the league it plays in, so adding $200 for a nice stock is still a bargain IMHO. Trigger is great, bolt is smooth as butter, ergonomics feel just right. But for now mine will wear the painted factory stock.

I couldn't agree more. I just picked up the very last one in 223 for a budget precision range gun.I paid $519 for a savage mark ii tr 22lr and $529 for a new CZ452 Varmint 22lr so to get a rifle of this caliber for less than used gun price I, m stoked. I'll be looking for a used sightron siii 8-32 for it.I can look beyond the stock and see a very good shooter for cheap. Real glad I got the very last one at WSS in West Kelowna.

Checked the trigger weight 2.5 lbs awesome.

I think you will be happy with the way it shoots, a chap had one like yours at the range today and he shot a few sub-MOA groups.
My 243 is a bit finicky in which bullets it likes / doesn't like, for instance one 80 gr. load went 0.338 " and a different 80 gr. bullet with everything else the same grouped 0.950 "..... still not bad.

Question about scope bases. I bought leupold standard bases 51701, as recommended on the Leupold website. Says Vanguard right on the package. If I mounted the rear base with the windage screws to the rear, they interfere with the bolt. So I mounted it with the windage screws to the front of the rear base. Get them all mounted up and realize that when the scope is placed into the rear ring, it sits up 1/16 off the front ring. So this is a failed attempt. Which leupold bases are you guys finding will work on the vanguard short action?

51701 is a 2 piece base for the Mark V, you need 50016.

I went Weaver base on mine though, already had several sets of rings laying around...$10 for a pair.

Thank you for your response. If you look at the links you posted, scroll down to the tab that says recommended firearms, you'll notice it says Vanguard and Howa 1500 on the list. On the ones you recommend, the Vanguard is not listed. This gets more confusing all the time.

Shot her today, accuracy claims are legit, sub moa was a breeze with Winchester 80gr psp. Definitely a shooter even if it ain't a looker.
It's funny, the left side of my stock is mostly black with a bit of the flame orange, the right side however is mostly orange with a bit of black.
If the whole stock looked like the left side I could live with it....

According to Weatherby's website the stock need a pressure point.

"Why are some Weatherby rifles “free floated” and some are not?

We have found through our testing that barrels having a smaller outside diameter than our #3 contour require upward pressure to help stabilize the barrel for increased accuracy. Our free floated barrels have enough rigidity in the barrel for them to be free floated.
"

So if you change the ugly stock for a Boyds stock for example the accuracy will be affected?

If it loosens the groupings, you can always add a pressure point.

I was just at cabela's Moncton, they have then on clearance for $549. People were looking at them a lot and the guy behind the counter was saying he can't guarantee there would be any left next week to a couple folks!

I just picked mine up from The Saskatoon store. It has to be the last one by now. I do like it, but the wife sure hates the burning antlers. Got it in 308. I' super happy that WSS put it on hold for me.

I think $550 is the regular price.... They have a less gross stock version for that price too.
