Forgive my shameless self-promotion, I'm just really proud of myself. I went hunting for the first time last weekend and today, I currently have two grouse I shot this morning roasting in the oven.

I did the online hunter education program on the weekend of September 19-20, wrote the test on Monday 21, had my BC Resident Hunter card by 4:00 on the 21st after I wrote the exam, had my license the next morning, went hunting last weekend and just missed a Blue grouse (my boys watched the feathers on his head detach...sigh...). Out this morning again, in a different location and harvested 2 out of the 4 we spotted.

This hunting thing is really fun. Gorgeous scenery, great workout and the chase. I should have done this years ago.

I should mention, I brought along our homestay student (15) from Germany...he's just LOVING this and can't wait to go back again. Friends, take a young person out with you...even if you are just getting going, the delight and love of the outdoors you see is so positive and we need to ensure the next generation has this experience and gets hooked.

Good stuff. If you stick with the grouse, bears etc you can have success often. Much more fun for your time investment. Looking forward to the day I give up trying for big game meat and just enjoy grouse etc.

Ruffed Grouse are also delicious with the breast meat sliced and fried. Congrats all around. Curious though as a fairly long term member and involved with firearms, why it took you so long to go hunting? :)

All my shooting was paper and clays. It was great fun and my young boys were able to participate. Now that they are a bit older, they are able to come along. There was no way they could have done the hiking etc. earlier and really not a possibility to go hunting by myself on a regular basis without them. I travel a great deal for work so when I'm home, I like to spend the time with my family. Yeah, I'm the guy in the "Who would you be" song by George Canyon.
