Youth rimfires

We're a Rascal family here, and it's the only Savage rimfire left in the house. My kids love the thing, and my 14 year old daughter (who's been it's biggest fan) even uses it to clear pigeons from a friend's barn (she has her hunter's apprentice license) under close supervision by me. The fellow who owns the farm used to ask me "does she need to get any closer than that?" when she'd line one up the full-length of the barn away. "Nope" was always my reply. "Crack-thump" and down drops the pigeon! :)

Don't get me wrong, for every pigeon...there have been 100 pop cans, soup cans, frozen/rotting apples, balloons...you name it. This gun really gets it done, and UNLIKE the Cooey 39, you don't have to put the round right into the chamber, nor do you have to pull-back on a spring-loaded knob to #### the trigger. I bought the Rascal partly because the kids simply could NOT pull that knob back when they were little, and that's on two Cooey 39s and a Cooey 75. It's why I find the recommendation of the Cooeys for very young shooters to be a bit strange.

Anyhow, our Rascal started-off with the peep sights...but now wears an EGW scope rail and a vintage, fixed 3x Bushnell Scopechief. Here is a photo of my youngest running some CCI "Quiet-22" through it, busting clay pigeons from about 50 yards.

I bought my daughter the savage rascal. It functions perfect and has a great fit for her. I would 100% reccomend it.

Kids shoot my model 60 fine.
The bolt is like butter. I really do see your point but if the action is clean and the spring not hard. Any youth should be able to use it.
Thats why ever kid in the 60s/70s shoot cooeys

Mine can all shoot them now, but the two younger ones just couldn't swing it when they were little.

The Cooeys are a no go for me. My 39 is too much for either of them to manage at this point.

I learned on the M39 I have downstairs but it was a struggle when I was little....there are much better kid sized products available today so I really don't see the point of putting the girls through all that.

Anyhow...thank you everyone for your input.

John
