7.62x39 bulk question

Only thing I try to keep away from is the corrosive. I tend to use the Dominion HP 123gr or Norinco FMJ 122gr. Usually cheap and fun to plink with. Haven't used it past 50m-60m yet but plan to soon.

ctc banged me 200 bucks for 750 rounds of 1964 chinese corrosive. I'm chrome lined but even still I figure that was enough

Sounds expensive

Places like mar star have free shipping on surplus ammo right now. 1400 rounds comes to under 20 cents a shot

I prefer non corrosive for ~25 cents a shot though, Canada ammo for that

Don't fear corrosive like others do. It's nonsense thinking.
Buy whatever surplus is cheapest. Budget Ammo Supply has the Czech stuff for cheap. Great ammo, all on stripper clips too.

last time i bought ammo , it was chinese at cabelas 1500 at 250$ , took too crates at .175 $ a round har to find cheaper , cleaning is never an issue for me

I have this idea in my head, that corrosive ammo, basically has the acid blood from 'aliens' in it. Fire a few rounds, then run for the cleaning kit before your barrel dissolves in front of you, in a toxic, smoky mess.

I've never used it, but since I'm convinced that this is what'll happen, I'm not ever going to either. I could be wrong, but when does that ever happen eh?

Corrosive is no big deal. Shoot it all day long, and as much as you can/want... At the end of the session run some water through your bore right at the range. When you get home run more hot, soapy water through the bore and gas effected parts. Dry well and lube with oil. No problem.

Only problem comes up if you let the rifle sit for a few days without cleaning...

Even easier in a Mosin.

they were used on battlefield for a long time and nobody got trouble the only thing you get is rust if you dont clean but it always depend of the climate you are in !

Or skip the water. The idea of using water only exacerbates the notion that cleaning corrosive ammo is a daunting task. I used to use window cleaner down the bore, but oil is fine for hours.

Buy some generic spray oil, and spray the hell out of the pistons, gas tube, action, bolt and bore with oil and pack it up.
I've been using WD40 but really starting to hate the smell. So I'll be looking for another.
Then JUST CLEAN IT LIKE NORMAL AT HOME! (Bore cleaner, solvent, patches, snake, oil, etc)

Boiling watter followed by brake clean chased with a regular clean and oil and your gun will look and run like new forever. I have a 858 with well over 10,000 rounds and it's as clean as the day I bought it well minus some bore.

Cleaning at the end of the day is a small price to pay to shoot as cheaply as surplus ammo allows us to do, if I don't feel like cleaning a bunch of guns after I just bring other things to shoot. Like my 9mm or my shotgun, pretty much a no brainer for me.

Cleaning guns is not a problem..Heck sometimes I'll grab a clean gun from the safe and clean it again just because..lol

Go ahead and shoot that cheap ammo..and have fun...:)

Windex is water, which flushes salts and contains a light cleaning agent that removes some initial fouling. The ammonia aids by being quick drying. Flushing the bore at the range can speed up the cleaning process at home. So no, not entirely useless.
