Today our once in a lifetime story happened to my boy.

We were out hunting on an old lease road that winds a bit thru the bush.
Location of this road will remain undisclosed because it is our favorite spot.
Anyhow we had gone to the lease and were on our way out.

a straight stretch that crosses a cut block , and about an 80degree left hand turn about 200 yards ahead of us there I spot deer on the outside of the right away(Pipeline)
My boy gets out of the truck and proceeded to identify the doe (we already knew it was a safe location for the shot)
He identified it as legal and was moving the crosshairs of his rifle to the shoulder for his shot.....when we hear a crack and see a puff of white ..it drops like a stone.

Seems the deer at the exact same time had 2 sets of crosshairs on it from 2 different spots on the road...
Half a second longer and it would a been my boys deer lol.

Never ever in all my years of hunting have I experienced this or even heard of it happening.

But today it happened to us

All the people in the bush these days, it's gonna happen. Was watching a herd of feeding deer, a couple of years ago, thought I was all by myself, when there was the sound of a shot and one of the does dropped. ;)

A buddy of mine was stalking a ram down south with his bow (during the general season) when a rifle cracked and the ram came sliding down the mountain!

Years ago a hunting buddy and I were checking out some elk from a long distance through the spotting scope when the nice bull in the group was shot and dropped!

A few years ago a friend and I were wolfing either side a a draw coming a off a butte ad a spike elk burst from one piece of cover to another and I nailed it with a neck shot. Before iI could get to it a young fellow came running out of the same cover and snapped a tag on it. I asked him what he was doing and he replied that he had bee chasing it from 3 ridges over and thought he might have hit it. I told him that as far as i was concerned he earned it. I didn't want an elk chased that far and our group had already scored well on elk that morning.
Ithought it was funny this guy running out to fasten a tag on an elk I just shot.

My dad and uncle were bow hunting many years ago, and each thought they'd arrowed a deer. Turns out, they did, but it was the same one. Took an arrow from Dad, ran straight to my uncle, froze when it saw him, took another from him, then ran and crashed shortly after in the thick stuff.

Thats a cool story......I think? Kind of makes me nervous wondering about a bullet coming along in my direction from some unseen hunter though.
I was thinking this as I drove towards the corner lol.
but it dropped like a stone.
And I was happy to see the other hunter pull up first.
yes we got out and looked and congratulated him on his deer :)

Went to a court case once. Two parties on the same ram, real old guy, with broomed off horns. One shot him, turned out to be short. The other guy turned him in. Two guides who hated each others guts. If the the tables had been turned, the outfoxed party would have turned in the first.

Thats Crazy. Suppose most likely only happen from road hunting?

Wl

My thoughts too. If you have to get out of the truck to take the shot, it is quite possible someone else is getting out of his truck to do the same. You don't have to go for much of a walk to reduce the odds of that happening by quite a bit.

Read post #4.

It can happen a good ways from a road as well. It certain circumstances.

On opening day of the Ontario turkey season last year, i was on private land i have permission to hunt. I got into my blind an hour before shooting light. Once I got my decoys set up, I sat back and enjoyed the sounds of an early spring morning. At the crack of light, I let off a few calls and a couple gobbles. As anticipated, I was received with some gobbles in return on an adjacent lot. It took about 10 mins before a big old Tom came strutting out of the bush from the same adjacent lot. I got on my calls and whispered some sweet nothings to him. As he strut his stuff about 100 yards away, His eyes were locked in my direction. This went on for a good half hour. Once he saw my stutting jake decoy on the opposite field, he came in running on a string. At this point i'm now prepared to drop the hammer on him as soon as he crosses over onto my field. When he got about 10 yards from the property line nust behind me, off goes a gun and wounds the bird. It takes a few seconds for me to regain a regular heartbeat, at which point I see a guy running out onto the field chasing this turkey and shooting at him while running. Well turns out there was another guy hiding along the same propery line facing the opposite field. The bird was about 10 yards from me, it was about 60-70 yards from the other hunter. Clearly this wasnt an ethical shot to take, let alone in a terrible direction, but the guy felt it was his only choice given that he didnt have any decoys or calls to attract the bird his way, and he clearly saw that the bird had committed to come to me. When I got out to speak with him once the bird had been peppered with 4 lead shots, he admitted he took a chance shot to attempt to stop the bird KNOWING where I was set up. He saw me come into the spot and set up because of my flashlights. Needless to say, I wasnt happy and I had some choice words to say. Turns out he couldnt return this year for a encore performance because he had a heart attack. After that incident, i can say I Know what that feels like!

Hope he bit into a few pieces of shot. What a d-bag.
