Looking to join the AR world and would like to burn though my stock of surplus ammo rather than adding a new caliber to collect.

What do you guys have/recommend in 7.62x39?

So far the only options I'm aware of are Wyndham and NEA

We have an AR15 Colt HBAR (1-8 twist)Upper chambered in 7.62x39 for $899, with a 20" barrel and the front sight in stock. It was owned by Phil (one of the owners) and he never shot it.

I'm very happy with the Windham x39. So far 2500rds and no issues. I did get a backup LMT x39 superbolt from Questar, but so far I haven't used it.
I would buy the Windham again.

Don't forget the PWS 7.62x39 ARs.

Just remember that x39 ARs have their issues (mags, bolts).

Exactly why I started the thread, ive read horror stories with NEA but not much else on other platforms. I guess its not as popular as I thought it would be. Thats for the reccomendations guys, sounds like there are lots off upper options - i'll just have to choose a lower.

CMMG may not be a top tier manufacturer but their MK47 is really attractive. Seems like a smart design from the ground for the caliber. I don't know another brand that went so far on solving the issues (particularly the oversized bolt). I think it uses AK mags, limiting your capacity to 5 rounds.

The magazines problems associated with x39 AR probably occures in free countries with normal capacity mags. Here the x39 AR pistol mags works perfectly in my experience.

I would gladly take the mag limit in exchange for the superior function of the AK magazine.

Unfortunately they are restricted which doesn't work for me.
